08 was a good year, partly because it didn't "sell out" so anybody who wanted to come, could - it really did mean that it wasn't "just" those lucky enough to have the kit to get a ticket, and the demographic "who needed to be 'seen' there" - so from that perspective it was good

secondly - the conditions were warmer and dryer than they have been for a while, which a) made glasto flow, as opposed to becoming a standstill of people either stuck in the mud or covering up under a tent waiting for a break in the rain. This also helped to bugger up the big almighty medias perception of - well everything - which is no bad thing

also with some execpiton (shangri-la) things like the new bus system of 2007 were resovled in the majority - again helping the event run smoother

so all these little things combined did indeed allow the festival to be a contender for "best ever"

but the best - thats debatable! to misquote slighlty GFL's official site- each year we do somithing different, so no two festivals can ever be the same..... which means that even if they hit a perfect year, at least they won't formulise it going forward, mistakes may be made in the eyes of some, but its better to have mistakes and evolve than to repeat and bore

which reminds me - must ring the bank B)

2004 was my best year, can't quite put my finger on why, but it was just an amazing festival all round.

Of course, this year will take that mantle B)

Last year was the best for me since 99 - it felt like the old festival again. Lots of people up for it, where as in 2007 it just didn't feel right. The mud didn't help, but the atmosphere was crap as well, and there was nothing to do after midnight. So 2008 was proper vintage glatso! Like it should be B)

I've been going since 2004 and I would say last year was my best.

It was the first one I can remember where I could sit down (although could on the Friday of 2004).

Every year for me just gets better and better though as I discover more bits that I hadn't explored before. Last year for instance I went to the circus and explored round there more.

although 2007 was the wettest festival id been to it was also one of the best glasto's id been to. mainly because it was so wet it was to much effort to get round so our entire group had a main stage weekend and watched every band on the main stage that weekend set up with chairs and cooler and got tw@ED all weekend ... good times

but the best for me goes to 2002 my first glasto , exploring the healing fields watching the sun rise at the stone circal some hippy chick giving me a bag of shrooms free it was also the year i left the army so it was the first fest that i was able to enjoy the less legal things in life since leaving school in 95

Last year was my 5th and favourite Glasto! The weather does make such a difference.

2007 was my worst. There seemed to be a lot of people there who just seemed to be there to be able to say "Yeah, i've been to Glastonbury". It just didn't seem to have the usual Glasto buzz (you know the one). Maybe the bad weather and mud put these people off in 2008???

for me, it's pretty much all about the weather, way more than the lineup. I'm happy to just wander around, sit on the grass, watch any old 2 bob chancers if the sun is shining. Nothing makes a festival more unpleasant than bad weather. I can't be doing with that 'we won't let a bit of rain get us down, will we' stuff. Trudging through Somme like conditions for 5 days is just draining.

I can't decide one for certain. It's between '97 which was my first and it was brilliant fun as a 10 year old playing in that mud. 2003 for Radiohead, Manics and hot weather or 2005 where I went with the biggest group of friends I've ever been with.

Honestly, they all merge into one. But if I had to pick a best one, it wouldn't be last year because I wasn't there. It wouldn't be 06 or 07 because of the mud. So one of the other seven :D

Nope - for some some reason 99 and the Lazarus like comeback of the fest from the floods (personified by Brian Wilson and aided by Basement Jaxx) in 05 always jump out in my mind. 94 and 95 were scorchers too. I had a ball last year but there was nothing on the lineup that was truly jawdropping for me personally...

I've been going since 1997 (Missed 02 and 03) and I think 2008 may have been my best. 2007 had some brilliant moments, like Arcade Fire and Bjork, but the rain and the crowd just got me down. It was the only year where the famous Glasto atmosphere wasn't really there.

I did have a good crowd in 2008 though, so that might have helped, along with the sunshine, of course :D

with my orbital head on 04, but in normal mode 05 had a great feeling to it.

It was only my second time, 2004 being the first. Last year was miles better. I still enjoyed 2004 but I was too young (16) and spent too much time stoned, started smoking weed in the morning and was always in bed by midnight eek. Last year was amazing though, one of the best weeks of my 21 years.
