Dear V,

After all these years, its over between us. When I met 14 years ago you were exciting, a new kid on the block, willing to try new things. I look at you now and just find you that attractive. The last few years, I get the feeling you don't want me anymore. You've changed your appearance to attract somebody younger, somebody a little bit less descerning....idiots basically.

Its getting to the point its embarrassing...when my mates ask me where I'm going for the weekend when I'm visiting I lie and say I'm going to the VD clinic or a peadophile rehabilitation camp...anything to avoid having to admit I'll be seeing the likes of N-Dubz and the Saturdays with you. I've been flirting with your sister T, and she looks like shes well up for it, so it looks like I'll be doing her instead of you.

Its not too late...maybe you'll change to the way you used to be, I could love you again...but somehow, I get the impression that you really, really just aren't that bothered anymore. You've bled me dry over the years, and now you're looking for the next victim.

PS Can I have my tent back please?

I think this will be my last V too, and its only my second year. There isn't a single act i'm really excited about seeing. This time last year i was buzzing and counting down the days untill KoL, The Verve and Muse.

This year it will be a bunch of poptastic kids drunk on cider and jumping around to dizzie rascal, lady gaga and the saturdays. Not my cup of tea at all!

Glasto next year for sure....

Sorry, but yr all wrong. Gosh no, not about V - but about which festival to go to. I've got mine sorted for Latitude; not only better bands, but comedians. plays, culture. cabaret et al. Plus it actually goes on during the night too.

This is probably my V swansong. The festival has been worsening almost exponetially over the past few years, but the N-Dubz anouncement is the straw which shattered the dromedary's spine. Too many kids/chavs/cheesy quavers hanging out at cavernous cider barns as opposed to watching bands. V's become too Steve Jones, and not enough Mark Radcliffe; too Grimmy Grimshaw, and not enough Steve Lamacq.

Evidently, it's repositioned at the axis (of evil) of Party in the Park/T4 on the Beach etc. Fine but exclude me out. I'm looking forward to Elbow, BSP, the Specials, MGMT and James - but, errrr, that's it. No more early bird purchases for me - at least not if this appalling line-up becomes the norm....

I'm doing Glasto this year. In 2010 I'm planning on Download and/or Sonisphere and/or Bloodstock. Anyone else up for those three?

I have a feeling that I'll probably like Download even more than Glasto, I've put off going to a proper metal festival for too long.

Sadly I think the audience this year will mainly consist of disillusioned festival go'ers who bought tickets in good faith.

I'm sorry V, I know we've only been together for 3 years but I met someone on a farm down in Pilton last year and I'm afraid she's the one for me.

Squall you will love Download, I did it and it was really worth a look. Only down side is when I go there a couple of weeks later for the MotoGP I feel guilty as the place is still slightly trashed...

Dear V Festival next year I may turn up, but I'll be secretly thinking about your hot big sister (Glastonbury) and your dirty friend with the tats and piercings (Sonisphere)... sorry I'll get my coat :)

Next year I'll wait for the line-up before I make my decision (three friends have already sold on their tickets).

FlamingLippy - there were always little chav kids but it shouldn't be too bad, I have hope, bit of sunshine and as long as we don't get a mini-tornado like Bearded Theory we'll be fine.

Love the 'Apocalypse Now' reference but I think at worst it will be a mild case of Beirut - now a Reading Riot is Apocalypse Now!

NewUnion - Thing is mate it has been the same thing every year, the people make the atmosphere as much as the bands, as long as you have your mates and a reasonable tune then you have a good time. Unfortunately I think the pessimism may stuff some of that this year.

Yeah...like the look of Latitude. Think mid-size/small festivals are definately the way forward...(maybe slip in the odd T or Reading)

Thing that worries me slightly about V this year is if this forum is indicative of the kind of attitudes of the newbies going its gonna be like a scene out of 'Apocalypse Now' or something...loads of little mad chav bastards running round causing chaos waiting for N-Dubz to come on...

Sorry to break this to you but I also met someone on a farm in Pilton last year and this year she's the one for me too. I hope we arent being taken for a ride.

As for V, i've been seeing her for 5 years but all good things have to end (once they get this bad, and I have seen the light elsewhere). I hope everyone going enjoys themselves but sadly I won't be there

Dont often post on here, to the point that this must be an old username of mine.

I am also very dissapointed by the lineup.

Having had a child (my mrs did, not me) 2 years ago we havn't been to a festival since with this being out first before going for sprog number 2 (with what will be another 2 year absense i would say)

If you look back to the last V i went to (2005) you will see a lot of similar names as well, not too mention the following 3 years having a decent lineup (i would consider last years excellent IMO) however, there is 6 of us going this year and we are all dissapointed.

Check out most of the other big festivals and the line ups are great, even download has a decent main stage. Now don't get me wrong i have a real varied music taste and will be able to fill the 2 days with bands but I, like others above, am not "excited" by anyone as far as i can tell.

Thanks for nothing V

Matt

I've been married to V for a number of years now but have been known to stray to other partners and do it with them in various fields throughout the UK. As much as I have enjoyed our time together, I think the time has come to finally part ways after one last fling this August. My new mistresses include a lady from Pilton, a look-a likey from Loughborough and a whirlwind of a girl from Ashbourne who has a nice beard. I'm sure we will have lots of fun this August and a little tear may be shed as I take my belongings with me and move on to pastures new.

You started as a Virgin when I met you, and now you are a bit of a pop whore that charges too much for a 2 day session.

Lets not file for divorce just yet, consider it a trial seperation and see how we feel in the years to come.

Thanks for the memories and here's to a sweaty, alcohol fuelled romp in the park this August where I will wear protection as it's going to be a scorcher..

xx

what I cant understand is why do people feel attached to v as a festival? its always been a souless festival made for money. it hasnt got the glastonbury/reading/phoenix festival history or vibe. it was made pure and simple to cater for the fairweather festival goer.

so why do you feel attached to v?

I've been wanting to do Download for about the last 5 years now but none of my friends have my music taste unfrotunately so I've always ended up going to V but don't think I'll be going next year if the lineup is like this years.

Phoenix, now they HAD a line-up. I remember just about every band I was into at the time was on and for reasons I still failed to understand I didn't make it to one of them.

Sonic Youth, Hole, Faith No More, The Black Crowes, Weller, Ned's, Stuffies, PWEI, Urban Dance Squad, Dodgy, House of Pain. The list goes on. They also had an acid jazz tent/stage with the likes of Galliano, Urban Species, Freak Power and Incognito - I'd take that now ta very much.

Back on topic, Phoenix would be the girl I fancied but never had the balls to ask out!

Thinking about it...there are a lot of similarities between sex and festivals...

1) they end up costing far more than you originally budgeted

2) they're both over far too quickly

3) they leave you feeling a bit dirty

4) they're normally better when you're drunk

5) and somebody always ends up moaning about having to sleep in a wet bit...

6) and they never like it if you try and get in through the back entrance...
