Don't buy new ...

I have read loads on the boards about what people are planning to buy for Glastonbury - tents, rucksacks, trollies etc etc.

Please consider buying second hand if you can. It is much more environmentally friendly, much more Glastonbury and

You get better quality stuff without paying inflated new prices

It doesnt matter if it gets ruined/stolen if you havent paid so much

New stuff looks so naff once you are there

Buying second hand helps someone else out financially

I've just bought a nearly new rucksack for 9 pound off ebay.

Remeber though sometimes it takes a while to find exactly what you want so start looking as soon as poss. Not long now

Good call you!

Not taking anything new this year, everything I have packed has been many times before...

and besides...isnt we in some crunchiness of creditness anyway so surely you should all be looking at saving money yes? Just dust the mud off the tent, wash the sleeping bag and borrow a rucksack. :(

Love the Farm, Leave no trace :(

My tent is celebrating it's 7th Glastonbury this year, my 8th. It's still going strong with only one or 2 bits missing. Of course it gets a new set of £1 camp pegs from my local pound store. I think it cost me about £100 from that massive sports store inside the Stade de France back in 2000, anyone been there? It's awesome! Anyway, back to the point, I hate buying new stuff for Glastonbury, everything I own that I take with me has a kind of Glasto history to it. Unfortunately I had an operation a little over a year ago when I had to take off my 3 wrist bands, I've only got my 2008 one on now :(

well said! our tent will be eight years old this year - it's got a few rips, it's now faded to blue rather than the bright purple it once was and someone drew on it but it keeps the rain out and it's definitely got lots of happy memories for me!

Personally I wouldn't buy a tent second hand. I like to know all the bits are there and no holes/mould are there etc.

However, I do look after my stuff and take it back year after year. Mainly because if you know you're going to use something for the next 10 years then you can afford to buy quality stuff. Good sleeping bags are a must.

I took one last year and it survived :(

Although i gave a sony cybershot to an icecream man while on shrooms!

So yeah, its pretty stupid to take something that costs so much, but love

taking photos, and will get some great shots with this camera so why not!

I cant concentrate on anything else but Glasto! i have done no work today at all!

Boss isnt going to be happy!

Another good option to consider is Freecycle.org Just register and there's lots of free goodies up for grabs. In my area I know that people have given away tents and other camping equipment.

And if you do buy new; perhaps you can give away your old stuff on there for people who can't afford new equipment/are less fussy!

But I have to admit; there's a certain thrill of going into Millets and browsing their camping section :P

I agee with the sentiment but camping equipment is a bit different. Not saying all the stuff is bad but all my old tents are worthless, they are worn through, mouldy, bits missing, holes in them etc etc there is nothing wrong with them per say would do the job, but I wouldn't buy them!
