Adding to an already tip-top line-up of leading lights from the electronic, folk, art-rock, dubstep, synthpop and world music err, worlds, comes Juana Molina, Micachu & The Shapes, The Big Pink, Audion, The XX, The Temper Trap and Rusko.

Toumani Diabaté is one of the most important musicians in Africa. Hailing from Mali Toumani is from a long line of influential Kora players, a harp unique to West Africa with 21. More than any other kora player it is Toumani who is responsible for bringing this instrument to audiences around the world.

Toumani is a performer of truly exceptional virtuosity and creativity and has participated in many projects both at home and abroad: he appears on Ali Farka Touré’s eponymous debut album for World Circuit; he toured with Salif Keita and appears on both his acclaimed album “Papa” and his latest release ‘Mbemba’; he was part of Damon Albarn’s ‘Mali Music’ project; he is featured on Kasse Mady Diabaté’s 2004 Grammy nominated album “Kassi Kasse”, and in 2007 he featured on the track ‘Hope’ on Björk’s album ‘Volta’ leading to an inspired guest appearance on her set at the Glastonbury Festival.

Following the announcement of Malian star Toumani Diabaté, Field Day throw another curveball, in the shape of Argentinean singer-producer-songwriter Juana Molina, who makes what can only be described as atmospheric, bass-heavy Latin folk, with an experimental edge. Molina sings mainly in her native Rioplatense Spanish, but has also recorded in English, and French. Her second album, Segundo, was named for Best World Music Album 2003 in Entertainment Weekly and gained a Shortlist Award nomination in 2004. Tres Cosas was placed in the Top Ten Records of 2004 by the New York Times.

Micachu & The Shapes will be bringing her unique brand of DIY pop to Field Day this year. With a hugely lauded debut album, Jewellery, recently out on Rough Trade and a penchant for homemade instruments, the 21 year old classically trained composer from Guildford is emerging as one of the key artists for 2009 and Field Day is the perfect setting for her to further enhance her credentials.

Electronic shoegaze pop duo The Big Pink aka Robbie Furze and Milo Cordell release their new single ‘Velvet’ on 4AD very soon. Joined by a bigger band of brothers for their live stage show, their distorted, laser-guided, arty sound will be a joy to behold in a festival setting.

Rusko, famed for both his solo production and DJs sets (and those with cohort Caspa), makes dubstep at the brash, jump-up end of the spectrum and is all the better festival guest as a result. Anyone familiar with his biggest track to date ‘Cockney Thug’ will know what we mean (the name says it all). Rusko is sure to have Victoria Park ‘brocking out’ furiously!

Following last year’s seminal performance by Matthew Dear from Detroit, he returns for ’09 in his Audion guise. Whereas Dear’s output in his own name could roughly be described as electronic pop, as Audion, he takes things down a deeper, more underground route, with bubbling, fizzing minimal house/techno workouts and harder acid numbers. In his new live show, Dear goes even deeper into the Audion world. At the centre of the show is a custom video setup employing the talents of Audion art director/cover designer Will Calcutt and artist Eno Henze, who has created psychedelic visuals at Frankfurt’s Cocoon club and gallery exhibitions worldwide.

Sultry London’s sophisticates Oliver, Romy, Baria, Jamie are The XX. Recently signed to cool imprint Young Turks, the band write hazy, perfectly pitched sepia toned songs and exude an desirable air of European chic.

Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, The Temper Trap are noted for their atmospheric, grand production sound set to frantic rhythms. Having recently taken the South by Southwest festival by storm in March 2009, the band have just finished recording their debut album with veteran music producer Jim Abbiss. Completing the list of new additions is Plugs, fronted by Does It Offend You Yeah’s Morgan Quaintaince. Plugs deliver skewed electro pop drawing on influences from Tortoise, to Portishead, to RUN DMC, to Stevie Wonder.

Brought to you by London’s most adventurous and daring promoters - Eat Your Own Ears, Adventures In The Beetroot Field, Bugged Out! – Field Day will bring you the most cutting edge line up of bands and DJs in the 2009 Festival season. The heart of East London will be transformed into a Village Fete. Away from sound systems and stages the masses can indulged in some countrified fun and games on the Village Green area - 'Village Mentality' - within the festival. Try your luck on the tombola, crack a few nuts on the coconut shy - or just sit on some hay bales and stuff your face with homemade cake. Inspired by summer sports days and country fetes - Field Day's very own village green will host stalls and activities throughout the daytime, ranging from sack-racing, to whack-the-rat, Bowling for Bacon and lots more to be announced. Come along, have fun, eat baked goods, and as the country saying goes - "be like an ant in the days of summer”…

Field Day is London’s quintessential festival with a line up that will be hard to find elsewhere. Keep your eyes peeled for future line up announcements and for the latest news visit – www.fielddayfestivals.com
