waterproofing the tent

i bought a tent off ebay the other week which boasts a hydrostatic head of 3000mm, but it's a single sheet tent, and even though it does feel like good quality i'd like to give it some extra waterproofing just to make sure. i don't want to be the one who ruined it for everyone by buying a waterproof tent which does everything but keep the water out!

i've seen people mention fabsil. is this any good? also which form is best, as it comes in a spray and a liquid? :P

also, is one tin/can enough generally?

dankeschon.

3000mm is more than enough, the fabric will be waterproof.

the problem will be condensation; the warm, moist air you breathe out during the night will come into contact with the cold tent fabric and droplets will form on the inside and run down into the bottom of your tent.

my advice would be keep your sleeping bag away from the sides of the tent.

i don't feel 100% confident in the quality of the waterproofing. they could have quite easily told a porkie about the 3000mm hh...

yes it has air vents and yes it came in a bag (??). thankfully i've just remembered it's only the communal area which is single skinned, the bedrooms are double, and each bedroom as it's own air vent - so this should help with condensation.

it's just the middle bit i'm a little concerned about. the tent is one of these ones from the "shops" on ebay which don't sell tents made by well known manufacturers, although as i say it did appear to be a high standard when i put it up last week.
