Driving V's the Train

There's 3 of us possibly 4 travelling from York on the Wednesday.

Been going to Glasto since '99 and have always taken the train.

However this year with a railcard the journey is £70 and even more without. Times 3 that's over 200 quid, we can certainly drive for a lot cheaper.

Getting the train there is great, a few beers sit back and relax but door to door it's a good 8hrs at least. Getting the train back is an absolute chore, 2007 was a total nightmare, it took over 14hrs! Though going north at Castle Cary always looks like dream compared to the queue's to London.

Comtemplating the drive down. Never driven before, what's it like? Any advice? Is Monday morning a nightmare?

Personally i'd drive everytime, We did the bus one year and vowed never again it was awful!

I'm coming from Lincoln and it's about 4 hours drive back from Site, last year we got up and left around 8am, loaded car and drove straight out. Was home for just after lunch.

Depending on the Gear your carrying and your car might struggle with the one car, but i'd say go for it. Save a shed load of money at least.

me too, i've national expressed it a couple of times and hated it.

much easier and cheaper to drive, it was £90 both ways for petrol last year split between 3 of us, and we got to arrive and leave when we wanted and had a place to leave emergency dry clothes etc.

Monday morning is only a nightmare if you try to leave at the peak times, and it can apparently take up to 9 hours to leave the car park for the really unlucky people.

But last year we were up at 6am, set off to the car at 7am, in car and on the road at 8am, no traffic really.
