afx
Hey guys, I have come into some weekend tickets without camping, on the official site it warns against sleeping in your car but I was wondering how vigilant they actually are about this. Anyone experienced anything? Thankyou

afx
yeh thats what I was thinking, they cant ask drunk people to drive so what can they do?! Alternatively we could stay up all night and just find a shady spot on site to sleep in the day. I have never actually been to download, is there much going on after the bands finish or is it all in the campsites like at reading? Is there much happening outside the festival? oscar
Been every year apart from last year never found anything going on outside the campsite but in all honesty I have never looked.

oscar
on what grounds do they warn you against sleeping in your car? surely its none of their business if you sleep in your car, although I do understand the concept of being in control of an (albeit stationary) vehicle whilst possibly off your face. I know the "day" car parks cant do it, becuase the cars are crammed in and out each day, but surely the weekend ones are ok?
the_frame
That they are losing money through people not paying for camping.Greedy really!
oscar
seriously? is that really their justification? then why dont they allow you to buy a seperate camping pass without a full weekend ticket?
afx
Legally is it a problem to be drunk and asleep in your car? i.e if I have my keys on me or am in the front seat can they accuse me of being in control of it whilst drunk?

-pogo-
Chuck your keys in the back seat or something. Don't have them on your self if your drunk and in a car. That's a big no! They can realy f**k you for that.
afx
Yeh thats what I was thinking, is it literally as simple as that does anyone know? I cant see the police being really bothered to do anything about it to be honest, would be a lot of effort for something they cant really prove

JayD
Not supposed to be able to on private land but I know people who have fallen fowl to this.... Generally a judge will think alchohol and cars dont mix I reckon... Sleep in the back maybe?
afx
yeh I was thinking that if I sleep in the back/the passenger seat with the keys in the glove compartment, and neither of us is in the drivers seat, then we cant really claim to be in control of it in any way. Surely the police should be happy with us that we choose NOT to drive away when drunk!! But anyway, does anyone know of somewhere good to go when everyone is in the campsites? There must be many more people like us who have non-camping tickets, im guessing they are in hotels, is there any entertainment for them in town or anything? Is there even a local town? theramm
My understanding is that if the keys are in the car with you then you can get f**ked. BUT if you were to put them on top of one of the wheels, under the wheel arch then you're not in posession of them.
Old Mosher
you can get one on the day for £20.. robbing bastards..

Big4heD
This is the first year I've camped. All other years I've slept in the car and never been disturbed. Go for it I say.

Bad Girl
On the grounds of that car fire at Reading last year - I've heard it was caused by an exploding gas cannister left in a car, and Ive heard it was caused by a BBQ getting out of control. It wrecked the car involved and the ones around it though. That said, I've got a huge car and if I needed to sleep in it I would do, without a second thought. Its probably more comfortable than my tent, tbh..
WildChildRockChick
according to the security dudes i chatted to it was a bbq that went out of control, caught one of the cars' fuel line and wiped out the rest in that row.. i was mortified when i couldn't find my car and they told me there was a silver micra in there.. thankfully it wasn't mine as i was parked in a different bloody field..
