Driving there on the Thursday

We're driving to Glastonbury for the first time this year; I've done it by public transport before, so I just switched off until I got on site. We'll be leaving London some time on Thursday morning (can't leave any sooner!), and the drive would normally take probably three and a half hours if there weren't a festival on... but I'm guessing it might take a *tiny* bit longer than that! :D

Does anyone have experience of hitting the roads approaching Glastonbury at midday-ish on the Thursday? Any idea how long we'll be sitting in traffic for, itching to get the tent up and the beers out? ;)

i always leave on thursday morning from north london and never had any problems. as long as you leave before morning rush hour kicks in you'll be fine. last year left at 5:30 (sounds worse than it was) - onsite, all setup, beer in hand overlooking the site from dairy ground by 09:30....

I'd be *totally* up for leaving at that time, but I reckon I'll never get my partner out of bed! Unfortunately he's doing the driving, so can't even just bundle him into the car with a pillow and a cuppa as I would usually.... Here's hoping the lure of Glastonbury will wake him up - but I reckon we'll probably end up leaving late morning, after the rush hour.

Plus, we're leaving from southeast London, so got to get round the south circular first. Honestly though, crossing London is the least of my worries!

I've travelled from Clapham on the Thursday morning for the last couple of festivals - leaving around 9 and picking up a friend in Bristol. With a supermarket stop as well you're on site early afternoon - never had a problem with traffic. Free moving until we're close to the site, and even then it's far better than driving in London!!

Joining the Wednesday crowd this time though, so there'll be even less traffic for you on the Thursday!!
