No option but arriving Thurs morning 6am

This is my first post so Hi guys,

We're all glasto virgins so don't know what to expect..

Due to work commitments, our grup is going to be leaving Newcastle about 10pm on the Wed night, aim to be at the gates by 5-6am Thursday morning.

Does anyone have any advice on arriving at this time on Thursday;

  • what gate and car park to aim for?

  • where to camp?

  • how much space there is likely to be for 4/5 tents in a decent campsite?

We are thinking that there should be minimal ques etc into the site at that time and it should be light so we can find a space.

Thanks a bunch for any tips!!

S

I'll be arriving 8-9am thursday. They DO let you in 24 hours a day.

Parking on the East side was a real problem in 07, as at the gate they told us everywhere nearby was full...Family, Kidney, Pyrramid, Pennards etc..all gone. They were probably telling the truth. We tramped all the way to Pains, and set up there. The field was v.quiet (filled up later) and we pretty much had the pick of it.

So last year we parked in West and had a MUCH shorter walk, straight into Pains, and set up there again. Similar business to the previous year.

My advice would be to park West side

they do let people in 24 hours.

i drive from newcastle every year and i've found the best way is A1/A1M down to leeds, continue on the A1/A1M (don't go on the M1 at this point, you'll hit traffic from leeds and sheffield) and join the M1 just south of rotherham. continue on the M1 and turn off at junction 23a on to the A42 which will turn into the M42 and take you all the way round birmingham. from there follow signs for the M5 and once you get to that head south until junction 23. follow the A39 to glastonbury town and then the A361 which will lead to the festival site.

this will get you in the west car parks and gates A or D depending on which end of the site you want to be on. where you want to camp is up to you but check out the FAQ over at glastoearth.com for a rundown on what all the campsites are like. there'll still be space left for you but if you're in doubt ask a campsite warden and they'll direct you to where there's space.

but don't worry, if they didn't make things easy for first timers, nobody would go. everything is clearly signposted once you get near the site and the car park stewards will direct you once you get in the car parks. and most of all have fun!

cheers for the advice everyone!

still unsure about arriving at 2am but it has the added advantage that we will be able to get a little bit of sleep to prepare ourselves for the next day!

Aslong as it is light enough to see the best spots to camp it should be ok..

always arrive thursday morning, never much of a queue...last year decided for Dairy ground and we had could choose from an entire field. headed right for the top, set up camp, cracked open some beers and turned around for propably the best view of the site i have ever seen. it's not the closest site to the action but the park is nearby and considering you spent a majority of the time wandering around the site, the slightly longer walk back and forth is definitely outweight by the view you have from up there....
