Shopping Trolley

I bought a sack truck with pneumatic wheels for £14.33 from B&Q, got a bit of mdf from work - drilled through the base plate of the truck and bolted on the mdf, painted it up to make it waterproof and bought a bunch of bungy ropes to keep everything secure. Total cost = under £18. Far better idea than a shopping trolley designed to cope with nothing more severe than the travelators at Tescos in my opinion.

You might want to consider getting a couple of spare split-pins in case they snap on the rough ground.

Edit: you need bigger tyres with a larger surface area, the thin ones on shopping trolleys will be a right royal pain in the arse.

I hope your trolley works mate, but you're going to be pulling it across farmland, and you're probably going to overload it as well.

But if you can prove us all wrong, fair play to you for sticking to your plan regardless of the words of naysayers working on daft things like experience and facts :-)

Yeah, seriously - that didn't read like sarcasm to me at all!

I also wish you all the best in your endeavours, if it's a scorching hot one and the ground is nice and hard you've got a fighting chance. If it's even slightly muddy though, take our word for it - you're buggerd!

Look out for me, I'll be wheeling a sack truck with poundland ratchet straps, big wheels and I'll be wearing a very smug expression on my face. If your trolley breaks, I'll be happy to help carry your beer on my truck (although I can't guarantee you won't find a can or two missing by the time we get to your camp.....)

We took a shopping trolley with us last year and loaded with as much as possible - a beer keg, food, clothes, couple of camping chairs, even the tent got loaded on it at one point. We kept to the metal pathways with it and it was absolutely fine - survived plenty of battering.

'Dolly' the trolley came out with us on the Sunday afternoon loaded with beers and we even have a pic of her enjoying Neil Diamond :(
