everyone that i know thats goin to the leeds festival seem to be 17 year old, purple haired little indie shithead girls, and lads with ladyboy haircuts and skinny jeans. both of which annoy me like f**k!

for anyone thats been before, is this actually the kind of people that go?

and no matter what when you tell em your off to glastonbury, they always say leeds is better than glastonbury, which everyone knows is bollocks!

so is leeds actually just a shandy fest full of shandy drinkin irritating children?

I live in Leeds and went religiously to every single one until 2005 when i also went to Glastonbury.... I was blown away! a few weeks later i went to Leeds Fest and couldnt help but compare it, it was a joke! and the f**king idiots that ruin it on the last night!

Have never been back since, ventured to T a couple of times which was a bit better than Leeds but still not in the same league. Also went to Global last year, which was crap!

I enjoyed Leeds when i went in 07. The last night of the fest was a bit madder (in a more dangerous sense) than any other fests ive been to though. People seem to throw everything onto fires. Gas canisters, lighters, lilo's, left over food, tents etc. I think some of the fires were getting out of hand which was the main safety concern and few people were effectively homeless for the last night of thier fest as thier tents had been damaged by the odd large fires. Didnt encounter much serious trouble as area we camped in (orange) was a bit calmer than one or 2 other areas.

This will be my first Glasto though so I cant compare Leeds to it personally.

Please leave all knowledge and expereinces of other festivals at the door folks...you will be entering and living at the greatest, most sensible(?!) and best run festival in the world for the whole of next week or whatever!

There b'aint no childish behaviour in the form of piss in bottles (except maybe for Lady Gaga  ), certainly no fire wars and throwing of everything within reach and sight onto a pyre, we have fireshows and parades for that kind of thing.

And IT IS NOTHING LIKE V EITHER! And the water IS safe to drink folks!

this is what worries me about going to leeds for the first time this year.

i know it's going to be nothing like glastonbury and i'm gonna find it hard not to compare it!

but i'm going for the lineup and it's my mates birthday so i'm just gonna take it as it comes! i'm sure io'll have a wicked time  might leave on the sunday night soon after the bands have finished tho!

I went to V when Glasters wasn't on in 2006...never again. It's dwarfed by Glasters but mainly it's run by fascists. Really heavy on the security regarding alcohol through the gates. They wouldnt even let in chairs despite selling them inside. it was geared up to make the maximum profit possible.

But the worst thing was that they shut all the music down at 11pm on Sunday night. and I mean everything. all the small discos in bar tents. and walked people out of the music area. No wonder people set fire to tents. There's cock all else to do.

I hated it! And apparently it's more chilled out than Leeds/Reading

All festivals are great, but some are greater than others. And they're all different.

Glasto is the absolute king of festivals, better in every possible way. But i go to Leeds too, purely and simply for the line-up. Everything else is poorer: food, drink, people, after-hours shenanigans, toilets, variety, campsites.

Leeds is a bit more aggressive and the people are less friendly. I tend to keep myself to myself at Leeds fest, whereas at Glasto i'll talk to anyone!

I will be going to my 4th Reading this year and I'm 17. And yes we were "indie types" but we dont act the way most of us are perceived to be. We dont cause trouble and yes we drink a lot but we can handle it. We don't throw gas cannisters onto fires and we are just generally nice people.

I'm interested to see how Reading will change this year with the introduction of 18+ wristbands and a ban on gas canisters and aerosoles.

Never had a bad experience at Reading in 2 years of going, an I think its unfair to stereotype the people who go to reading/leeds into pikey chavs, but the age group is generally quite young.
