Glastonbury after recent heart operation

Recommended Posts

I had a heart attack last Thursday & angioplasty yesterday  . I am back home now :) .

I have a 2009 Glasto ticket.

I can't drive for 4 weeks (not a problem), have been told I shouldn't lift heavy stuff for a week, or walk too far and to avoid hills (hey, I live on hill, what am I supposed to do?).

Should I Stay Or Should I Go Now?

And yes, I have been to Glastonbury many times before.

Am I in denial?

Advice from doctors (who have possibly been to glasto) and people who have had an angioplasty most welcome.

Thank's for reading

Ok well withouit wanting to send you to Glastonbury just to end up back in hospital, here's my advice...i've seen a hell of alot of angioplastys done before and the recovery period is very quick, i think as long as you avoid raving to the Prodigy and just take general care of yourself, you should be ok, but remember, if something were to happen, some people may presume you are just drunk, so maybe useful to have someon with you at all times just to keep an eye on you!! :-)

If you feel happy to go then go but just take it easier than you usually would. Take it slowly, take good care of yourself and make sure you eat and rest well whilst there.

I'm not an expert by the way but that would be my advise.

Also is there someone who can carry your stuff in for you? There was a guy on here offering up his wheelbarrow for free on Wednesday afternoon yesterday. It'll save you the lifting.

...If you do decide to go (and at the very least I'd ask your GP for advice, if not your cardiologist...and realise that they have your best interests in mind), make sure you drop into the medical centre when you arrive. Let them know you're there and where you are camping.

Hope it works out for you, but there's plenty more glasto's...better to be around for them!

Take care :P

That is very kind of you. Can you carry me? :P .

My first day out of hospital yesterday and I think I may have overdone the stairs a little bit. The breathings fine, but where they went in through the groin, walking is taking its toll.

I will rest all weekend and see how I feel. I have appointment first thing with GP on Monday, but all the professionals seem really against the idea of me going.

I'm a bit new here. Does PM mean post message?

Regards,

Mr Zigster

Good luck dude. Should imagine not too bad if not not carrying stuff. I'd seriously get a wheelchair, at least for the slog from the car. You should get in touch with the Glastonbury Festival Office - get the number from the official site. you may be able to be registered as diaabled. Explain the situation, say you can walk etc, but ideally want to avoid it. If it rains, then walk, otherwise, enjoy the rest. I'd push you about and I'm sure your mates would do the same!

Yes, totally gutted. Still, at least I would be able to watch it on the telly. I initially thought I would still be waiting for the surgery and made to go to bed at stupid o'clock in the no telly hospital.

Not sure which would be the most gutting actually.

If the Drs think I am OK for work in two weeks, surely just under a week is enough to take it easy at a festival. I will try to argue my logic with my GP on Monday.

If you do go, either with or without the blessing of your doctor, it might be an idea to visit the medical compound when you get there, just to let them know what they may encounter if you are brought in.

Some kind of note in your wallet (if you carry it around) to explain your condition can also save vital seconds when people are trying to work out who you are and whats wrong with you!

There are medics on site - but they will obviously not have the full kit and setup of a hospital. If you have any problems the nearest Acute hospital is 40 minutes drive from the main road.

If you attend this year and have a problem - you may never attend again. Harsh but true.

If you rest at home this year - you may live to see many more Glastonburys.

Thank you for all of your kind advice.

Here is an update.

I saw my doctor this morning, and she thinks I will be fine to go as long as I dont lug around "lots of beer" or a rucksack etc.

I have been in touch with glasto and they are trying to get a disabled car park pass to me in time.

What nice people.
