The Nature of the Groups sections

H,

Basically I've been a member of a few of the festy groups before on here and to be honest, haven't realy payed much attention as to how they are set up and operated what so ever, only the topics and stuff.

Anyways, to cut a long story short, I think the way the festival groups are set up (which to be fair most are just a festival group ie. Leeds Festival 09 Group, etc) is open to a lot of abuse and such. I'm not saying it has happened, just that it has the potential.

For instance, the person who creates and runs the group deicides who joins and who doesn't. I think that if the group is for a specific festival on a specific year (again like they usualy are) then it should be public (ie. anyone can join without anyones approval). Do you not agree?

Just thinking, little cliques may form with them if it isn't, and the group bits appear just as official as the individual boards, even though they are custom.

Only a suggestion mind.

Anyone is able to set up their own group. The way the groups software add-on is written, there has to be a 'leader'.

It's up to that 'leader' to allow or not people into that group. However, if they want to to be exclusive they can create a 'private group', so it's unlikely that they'd be a public group

Unless a person has joined any of the groups, they're essentially unaware of their existence, cos the forums for any group only become visible once a member of that group.

Cliques form anyway; the advantage of having the groups is that it keeps (at least some of) the cliquiness away from the general forums.
