BudBrain
Hey all, We're taking cooking equipment this year to save money. Few questions: - Where can we wash up? (We're probably camping at Pennard Hill) - Is there hot water? - Any tips? Should we take a washing up bowl etc? HurrahBrother
- Where can we wash up? (We're probably camping at Pennard Hill) All toilet points have at least 1 sink, often more. Though washing dirty pots in them is considered bad form. - Is there hot water? Not really, yes there is hot/warm water in the showers, but water heating for other uses, you are on your own on that. I pack what I refer to as a meth powered travel kettel which is plenty good enough for boiling water or heating through tinned food (greenheat stove, cleaned out and filled with cotton wool which is then soaked in meths). - Any tips? Should we take a washing up bowl etc? Recomendations will vary on what "washing up" you are doing. I have a stainless steel bowl I take with me about 7 inches across (its a large dog food bowl actualy, from Wilkinsons). That serves sufficently as my sink for washing myself back at my tent as I am only boiling up water. If you are washing pots and pans, certainly get a bowl that is big enough. Though depending on what you are cooking, I'd say immedietly after serving, fill the pot with water and an good sprinkling of salt (salt = anti-bacterial) and put it back on the heat, leave it on a rolling boil for a few minutes, the boiling will do most of the cleaning for you, the heat and salt will kill any bugs (no sink needed for that). cassandra13
We camp a lot, usually in the middle of nowhere so we take a bucket for any washing we do, people, plates, clothes as necessary. For festies we take paper plates which can go in the recycling at Glasto, anything else that needs washing gets done straightaway and the water gets thrown straightaway also, in a safe considerate way, of course, and we use an ecofriendly liquid. There are no facilities like hot water at sinks that you get on campsites and people might complain if you hold them up by washing up at the sinks.
