oafc0000
I know the weather report is looking quite good but what happens if it ends up so muddy that your campervan gets stuck ? I am renting one for glasto and its a big concern for me that we might get stuck in the camper field...
cassandra13
In 2007 there were lots of tractors towing big vans out of the mud, smaller vans like VW's etc mainly got out ok if they chose the route carefully. Don't worry, plans will be in place in case this happens again as the campervan fields have to be cleared on monday.
Toilet Duck
...in '07 it took us about 4 hours in the rain to get the campervan out of the field (and we were in the very first field as you come in as we arrived late on wednesday night!)...earlier in the night there was a tractor helping people to get out, but eventually it buggered off to get cars out of the car park...at about 5.30 in the morning various people stuck in different parts of the field just got together to push the stricken vans out...had to push I'd say 20 other vans out before ours got out, but everybody pitched in and we all got out eventually...in '05 the field had dried by Sunday night/Monday morning so we drove out with no worries...I'd say the chances of things being as bad as '07, when it rained non-stop for a bloody week, are slim...but you never know! Have fun with the hill of death, it's home ground for me this year! (nah, the hill isn't that bad, and the comfort in the van is worth it...we just have to get back quickly on Monday so flying was easiest, otherwise I'd have the van there again)...Have a good one! oafc0000
Mine is quite big... Hobby 700... This isnt the exact one but it shows the size.. Its about 7 1/2 meter long... I reckon it wouldnt take much for it to get stuck... http://www.motorhomes.mobi/Motorhomes/tabi...00/Default.aspx How do they tow you out ? Do I need to check it has anything in particular... I know the one I am getting has a tow bar at the back for pulling cars behind it but I do not think its designed for actually towing it out of a shit load of mud Edited June 22, 2009 by oafc0000

oafc0000
Is that not a towing eye on the front left hand side?
loosechange
Is there an attachment that goes in that hole or is everything under there already ?
oafc0000
I'd reckon that's the eye there, part of the chassis, and that's all you need. But don't quote me on that! I'm sure you'll get a proper handover when you collect it, so you can ask then. (My car doesn't have a permanent eye, it's an attachment you screw in when you need it - so in 2005 when we got stuck on the way out, I had to get out, wade round the back, get half our bags out of the boot in order to get to the bit I needed, then wade round the front and screw it in.) Dexie
if you have any problems go to the staff on the gates and they will get the tractor to pull you out, they have to ensure they pull you with out damaging the vehicle due to insurance, even if they get in the mud and attach the chain to the fron or rear axle, which ever is easiest to pull you, please do not worry, my staff will help you to park up when you arrive and get you out on the monday safely, Dexie
Cheshire Cat
You tell me I don't even drive, my wife will be doing the driving *shes actually quite good before anyone takes the piss * She has done off road driving courses She might need to put it in practice but that was in a 4x4 Is there an attachment that goes in that hole or is everything under there already ? al_coholic
4 planks, one under each wheel, spreads the load and stops the wheels sinking into the ground over the weekend.

At least the journey home will not start with being stuck in the mud (50 yards down the field on the otherhand!)
