Buying booze in the UK

Hi all,

just wondering what are the licencing laws in the UK? We are heading over from Ireland and will be getting a taxi from Bristol Airport to the site around 8am. We were hoping to stop in at a tesco/lidl/aldi/sainsburys etc along the way to stock on on booze but will we be able to purchase alcohol at this time of the morning? Here in Ireland, it's around 11am before we can buy booze. I believe, it's earlier in the UK but can someone enlighten me please.

Cheers,

Foggers.

Great...............Any recomendations on where we should stop for booze/grub etc? Cheap and cheerful will do lidl/aldi or similar.

Oh yeah, just one other thing..........Can taxis pull up at the festival bus station? We need to pick up our tickets and the ticket office is just there.

Not a clue tbh, though i've heard Shepton Mallet has big supermarkets ASDA/Tescos. Not sure where the airport is in Bristol, but if you need to shop at 8am you'll probably need to find a 24hr supermarket. Have a look at their websites I imagine they all have store locator searches on their.

Hi Foggers,

We are arriving to Bristol Airport as well about 7.30am. We are hiring a car and then driving. We are planning to do our camping equipment and booze shopping in ASDA in Patchway.

See the following links:

Patchway? Can be a bit of trek, especially at rush hour. Maybe better looking at Asda Bedminster instead? I live just down the road, they have most of the camping stuff in there as well as at Patchway. It's then easy to jump on the Wells Road, and a smash up the A37 to Shepton Mallet, and the promised land......!

Papeman, just checking out google maps etc. Patchway seems to be the closest to Bristol Airport. The motorway M5 is right beside Patchway as well. Going to Bedminster means that you would have to go into the city and then back out onto the A37. Is traffic usually that bad on the M5 at 9am ?

If so, then it might make sense to go with your plan...

Noo, noo, Bristol airport is the other side of Bristol to Patchway, postcode is BS48 3DY. I have a funny feeling you may have spotted Filton Airfield on Google Maps.

'Tis up to you really, also depends if you are heading for the West car parks (prob M5 route), or the East (A37 route)
