Alien Ant Farm annouced

Alien Ant Farm have been announced for Sonisphere along with Saxon and Dead by Sunrise. I'm fairly pleased with the announcement but would of liked to see Buckcherry.

One could be forgiven for thinking that with two weeks to go the line up for the debut Sonisphere festival at Knebworth was complete. However, we have still managed to confirm some great additions…

First up, it is a pleasure to confirm the first ever UK appearance of Chester Bennington’s side project Dead By Sunrise. Made up of members of Industrial Rockers Julien-K and led by the Linkin Park frontman, the band are set to release their debut album later this year. Fans at Knebworth will have the opportunity to hear songs for the first time in the UK as the band perform on the Apollo stage on Saturday night as part of Linkin Park’s encore.

Alternative rockers Alien Ant Farm will be flying in from Riverside, California to entertain the Sonisphere crowds with their fun filled anthems. The band came crashing into the UK in 2001 when their cover of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal” hit no 3 in the UK charts, following up with their next hit, “Movies”. The inevitable performance of “Smooth Criminal” will give attendees at Sonisphere a chance to pay homage to the King Of Pop while they rock out on the Apollo stage on the Saturday.

And last, but by no means least, home-grown Heavy Metal legends Saxon will be bringing the denim and leather out in full force. A veritable metal institution, Saxon have been causing heads to bang and horns to be raised for over 30 years, and show no sign of slowing down. Hits like “Never Surrender”, “Wheels Of Steel” and “Heavy Metal Thunder” were MADE for a venue like Knebworth.

I'm not expecting any more bands worth watching and not expecting machine head to be replaced (the line up on the main stage for that day looks to be full - So effectively MH have been removed and Saxon added. )

There may be some room to add a larger band and I would hope that the organisers could replace MH with someone better than Saxon.

Alient ant farm I could give or take. But then they are replacing thin lizzy who I was also indifferent to.

I think the quality vs quantity theory has lost it's way as AAF are not a quality band. They were famous a decade ago because of a cover version they did. And although they may have been popular then, I fail to see how this adds quality to the line up.

if anything, it dilutes.

I listened to Significant other today and man has it aged badly!! I can't imagine AAFs material would have faired quite as well, I mean AAF were shit back then! God knows how they will sound now!

Not really bothered about AAF, they were fun a few years ago - but then again they are playing the saturday opening slot so they are taking the lowest slot effectively.

Saxon on the other hand - who are Thin Lizzy's replacement, is a very good replacement indeed. At this point i dont really care whose added though as its all about NIN and Metallica for me

They did a Jackson cover. Surprised Cornell hasn't been added on that basis. What a cheap gimmik of an addition. How about adding a band that sings about the collapse of western civilisation. That's the kind of relevancy I'm after. Mammal for Sonisphere!

so people where expecting the likes of iron maiden or guns n roses for the opening slots it seems :|

of course its gunna be a small band opening the stage, half the bloody punters wont even be there yet.

it probably take a stab in the dark that they are finding it difficult to get bands who havnt yet played download this year, and are around at the time of sonisphere, that are a bit smaller, as to warrant an opening slot, yet half every single person going to the festival loves...........
