If you have a facebook/myspace account you can left click on a photo you like and under properties there is a link address thingy to the photo. You then go to "add reply" on here and go to the little icon that says to add a picture and copy the linky into their.

I cant remember how to add an avatar though. Hope thats not what u meant!

You upload your photo onto Flikr/photobucket etc, then there's an image code (basically a link between - you copy that into a post, and ta-da, your picture should be there.
