My essentials also include

Lots and lots of Glow sticks

Fairy Lights

Fur throw

inflatable chair

Hair pieces/wigs/dry shampoo

Drugs (but seeing as I have been on the wagon since February that is one less thing to take)

I take it our cars won't get searched for glass bottles? I've got two cases of wine & wanted to take one along, but leave in the car to go back and top up my camelback/plastic bottles and head back to camp..?

Ok.... let me check im prepared. . . . .

Equipment

Tent Oooh, must get tent out and check it is not destroyed....

Sleeping bag Got it

Air-bed (well, a cheap lilo that I can throw away (yes, I am soft!)) Did have it til baby bro brought half of chavsville home last night and totally destroyed it. On shopping list. He will pay :D

Stove Nope. Portable BBQ and some pennies for van food!!

Pan (from £1 shop, so can throw away) Erm... No.

Water carrier I have rum.

Fork Yey. It is plastic and pink!

Spare mobile phone battery New phone. So taking old one and new one!

Wet wipes (double up as bog roll) Bulk bought in Boots. 3 for 2 man, 3 for 2.

Drinks

Netto beer (to change at beer amnesty) /index.php?showtopic=128175">More Info here

Vodka (in plastic bottle)

Coca-cola

Nope. I have Rum.

Food

Hot Dogs

Tin of beans & sausage

Bread

Pot noodles (lots)

Super noodles

Chocolate bars

Crisps

Nope. I have Rum. And pennies for van food. Pancakes mostly. mmmmm....

Medication

Paracetamol Yes. And ibuprofen.

'personal medication' Yes.

Alka-Seltzers Nope. I have Rum.

Clothing

Wellies Must get these out of tent bag and clean them of Donington Mud!

3 pairs of socks Oooh. Good call! Almost forgot! :D

1 spare pants Just 1? Ewww. I take at least 3!! :D

1 spare trousers Well, leggins and tutus and stuff.

1 spare t-shirt 3 vest tops to be exact!

Jacket (water proof if possible) Yey I have one this year. I shall be prepared..

Festival hat I dont have one this year. I am considering wigs and bandanas as a funky alternative :).

Tips:

*No need for a pillow, just use any spare clothes. Crazy talk. Pillow essential.

*Try and pitch near a fence - it makes a great place to dry wet clothes And to pee! :) Don't "ewww" me you all know you do it and it makes sense. However, few tips with this. Dont be down hill of the fence, dont be too close to the fence either!!

*Try and buy as much 'cheap stuff' as you can in terms of equipment, so you can dispose of it at the end. Saves time and effort trying to clean it, pack it, and get it back to your car. Making sure that it is disposed of in an economically friendly way obv! :)

* re the spare mobile phone battery - it's well worth getting one off ebay before you go, and charging it up. You don't want to be stood at a recharge point for an hour, just to get one bar of battery! Unless you have a spare phone.

DO NOT FORGET THE RUM. OR THE POLISH VODKA. MMM...

Thought I would bring up this thread again...

Also this year, I'd like to add to take more water-proofs, a couple of towels, and as stated above, a pillow. When you get back to your tent wrecked, there is nothing like having a big comfy pillow to get your 'ed down on!

ALSO (2) I will be taking less food this year, I always end up throwing a load away, as you spend most of your time away from your tent.

ALSO (3) Don't leave ANY valuables in your tent, and make sure money, phone etc is in SECURE pockets. Unfortunately you do get pick-pocketers at festivals (everyone jumping about together, pissed) so be careful!

Stuff that I take (which hasn't already been mentioned)

Large rucksack (mine is 65ltr)

Selfinflating mat (attaches to outside of my rucksack)

Walking boots (haven't got any wellies - managed 4 VFests without any including knee deep mud in '08)

Sandals (if hot weather forecast ala V'09)

Captain Jack

PJ' bottoms or jogging bottoms plus tshirt for sleeping in (can get bloody cold at night!)

cargo/combant trousers x3

3 vest tops

lots of thick socks (you can never have too many socks!!!!)

underwear

bandana(s)

jumper/fleece

suncream

toothbrush/paste

deodrant

wipes

hairbrush

Dry shampoo

Hand gel

tissues (small packs to carry for that time when the loos will have run out!)

lipsalve

sunglasses

poncho/coat

festival hat

spare clothes in car (learnt this after V07 when didn't take enough trousers and was damp all the way home!)

bin bag

paracetamol/painkillers

camera and batteries

phone plus spare

glowsticks

torch

money

small water bottle

Vodka mixed

Cider

pot noodles/rice thingies

cereal bars,

small pan, kettle (hooks on outside of rucksack)

ravioli (or similar tinned stuff)

HEXI STOVE + blocks

hot choc sachets

mug

spork!

camelbak(poss?)

matches

Looks like a lot - but it all fits in or on my ruckscak. Even my tent (if I'm camping by myself) hooks onto the outside of the rucksack. I'm sharing this year so am bringing a bigger one (3man) which we'll carry between us. The only other thing I carry in my spare hand is a bag full of cans of ciderrrrr :)

I only came the conclusion of 'if its not on my back it aint going' after my first V when I took far too much stuff (oh the shame!). The next V I spent too much on food, so now I cram in the little hexi stove and as much food/pot noodles that'll fit in after the essentials are in there! I still buy a bit of food but this helps keep the costs down..I don't drink a huge amount , one bottle of vodka mixed with pop and a bit of cider is enough for me for the weekend (wot a lightweight, lol)

a flag to mark out where you are camped is handy, though they wouldnt let me take one in the last time so i had to smuggle it in, but once i put it up didnt get anybody coming to tell me to take it down.

my flag is a Mr T flag and a veteran of 7 festivals!
