So the V website says chairs/seats will not be allowed into the arena

Is this true?!

I've been carrying around a wee 3 legged fishing stool at festivals this year and it's been a god send to my aching old legs, especially when it rains!

Is it true?They don't let us in with chairs?I'd be gutted if it was!

Sorry but yep it is true. You may be able to smuggle it in under your coat but if they spot it they will either make you leave it at the entrance or take it back to the tent.

For the past few years you have been able to get inflatable chairs fron the Virgin Union Bar. These are blown up and frown over the fence at the back of the bar, at certain times. However if u are willing to blow them up your self you may get the kids blowing them up to pass u one through the fence. Not as good as a stool, but better than nothing.

Well that is bollocks and completely uncalled for!

Wonder what their reason is for not allowing in little chairs?

I might try and smuggle it in any way and leave it at the gate if I can't get it in, they only cost a quid 50

or bring a carpet tile, are they allowed?I've seen them a couple of times this year

I reckon you'd be able to smuggle a little 3 legged stool in ok but you'd have to hide it well. Your allowed to take picnic blankets and so forth in we regularly do that

pretty poor this i know for some people festivals are just about relaxing having a seat and a beer trust v to ban chairs

Mr friend was allowed one a couple of years back - she just pleaded old age and they let her through! (Obviously won't work if you're 20 though!) So many things seem to depend on who you get on the gate/what mood they're in!

By the time V comes around I'll be 6 weeks post op after having a kidney removed.

I wonder if I show them my 9" scar they'll let me take a chair in?

(Probably not knowing them! ) Will be taking a picnic rug though!

HappyMonday76 - it might be worth taking a letter from your doctor saying you should be able to take a chair in - worth a try anyway!

And Clairetelche1 - I agree - I hadn't thought about it at first but you're so right - a bloody brolly at a festival! Jeeeesus what a pain! I don't remember too many last year in the rain so presumably most people agree with us.

Seems a strange rule when they sell camping chairs in the arena. So you buy a chair, take it out the arena, then can't take it back in. Piss take if you ask me.

Maybe they think if you haven't bought it there, it could be a James Bond style chair with hidden weapons in the legs! Nah on second thoughts they're just trying to make money.

Chairs were non existent at festivals pre 2004ish, I have no idea why so many people think they need them now, the lazy c-nts.

(Obviously if you have a medical need, then its different, the vast majority do not though)

Never had a problem with taking in the 3 legged folding stools at Hylands or a brolly for that matter.

Nah I won't be taking a chair , was just highlighting how the miserable lot on the arena gates wouldn't let someone in even if they needed it unless they paid in blood.

I have a rucksack that has a stool built in. It is genius, it was from tesco about 5 years ago and only cost £3. When I got it, everyone told me I was a total geek, but in all the mud and rain that we have had for the last few years, it has been a must.

I'm not sure if they still do them, I'll have a look and if they do, post a link.

Its one of those rules that gets dropped within hours of the gates opening. If you buy a chair on the Saturday you can take it back in on the Sunday.

I took a chair into the arena last year at Chelmsford and it was fine, but this year maybe the rule's changed :S

My mates all had chairs in the campsite no problems, and it's not on the list of things you can't take in so it won't be a problem there at least.

My wife and I both had chairs inside the arena last year, and we were on a weekend ticket with no camping. From what I can remember, loads of people had chairs, so is this a new rule for this year, or perhaps it is not very strictly policed...?
