My Husband and I are going to V in 7 DAYS (WOOHOO).... and its his first time (i went a few years back) and I have been keep myself updated with advise/tips etc from you lovely people. Now I need some help.....

My Husband will not listen to me (show me a man who does haha) he is convinced he will only need trainers for the whole weekend.... I have told him he needs wellies/walking boots (or both) and he needs them now so he can "break them in" for a week.

I was hoping that you FESTIE vetrans would help me out and let me (well HIM) know what the best footwear is and just how bad/muddy/soggy the ground actually gets.... Ive seen the place and Ive seen pictures etc from previous years but he is still convinced that trainers will be OK.....

Any comments would be gratefully accepted as Im sure my Husband would listen to any of you before me... (btw if trainers are OK for the whole weekend then I will hold my hands up and I owe him a big apology but Im pretty sure Im right on this occasion)

what I would say is this, if your hubbie is buying a brand new pair of trainers for V weekend and thats all he is gonna wear then dont expect to be wearing them after the festival!!

No but seriously the mud last year was awful and I saw day trippers in trainers and they were struggling. If it rains on the friday then even if the weather is sunny sat and sun the site will still be muddy all weekend and its not gonna be nice putting those trainers on on a sunday morning if their caked in mud from the night before. Let him take the trainers but take some wellies as a back up plan. If he doesnt he'll live to regret it and you'll just have him moaning all weekend!

wellies are a must... if it rains then trainser will be gone in the sort of mud we had last year... after watching muse i swear i almost lost my wellies to the mud, trainers would have been impossible to move around in if you managed to eep them on your feet

Thanks for the replies - yes Ive told him too that if he ends up with wrecked (or not even ANY!!!!) trainers he'll just be miserable coz if its one part of you that needs to be comfy all weekend its your feet!!!!!

Think i'll be winning this one too haha!!!!!! Wellies it is!!! (along with a couple of pairs of old trainers!!!!)

Less than 7 DAYS NOW.... WOOHOO xx

I took walking boots last year and survived (just) one thing i would say is if your not in wellies - which i refuse to wear - then dont tie your laces tight on your walking boots . You will not be able to see the laces for the mud so you need to be able to get them off without undoing them !! LoL

Good Tip!!! Nothing worse that NOT being able to take off muddy shoes!!!!!

He (well we) are going shopping for his footwear later on.... If I send him on his own HE WILL come back with a new pair of trainers!!!!!!!!!

Im thinking walking boots for the "sturdy" option.... plus they look better with shorts haha (not that it will matter by about 2pm on Saturday haha!!!!!!)

If he want's to just take his trainers, then let him...

however, he will regret it when the mud is 5 inch deep, and contains gallons of piss (and boy does it smell) and he can feel it all seeping through his trainers & socks... nice eh?

Imagine going to see the band you have most been looking forward to - but your feet are soaking and freezing - how can you possibly enjoy it to your full potential?

A decent water-proof pair of walking boots would suffice though.

Paula.

Perhaps this will convince him...

This was one of the LEAST muddy bits. People were losing trainers left, right and centre last year because they got sucked into the mud.

As you can see, I went down the walking boot route, and my feet stayed dry, but just. There is no way I would consider taking anything else this year, and I will have a pair of wellies with me too. If I can get away with the walking boots all weekend, I will do, as they are more comfy, but I would not consider going in trainers ever. Even if it is dry, the area round the toilets always turns into a mud-bath.

Hello

I had EXACTLY the same problem last year with my Fiancee. He took trainers only, while I took my wellies....this year he has gone out and got some wellies, as it was horrible for him last year!

Not only were his trainers totally wrecked, but sometimes we were ankle high in mud...he feet were wet through, and that was on the first day.

He had to wear them all weekend and you just want to have a good time, and not feel uncomfortable all day.

My other half learnt this the hard way last year...TAKE WELLIES GUYS!!

Enjoy the festival xx

since about 1996 i have been going to festivals and always wore trainers but last year i had to invest in wellies onsite as it was impossible to get around the site in trainers if he isn;t keen on wellies tell him to wear footy boots the studs are goon for non slipping
