little car
Presumably resulting in a major saving re. their fee, which could be passed on to those who bought tickets, seeing as they aren't being replaced?
SweepingTheNation
Or put aside so they can be rebooked next year. (You know, like the Hold Steady came ba...oh, hang on)
jud
Idlewild did a great job at standing in last night..............only marred by general quietness of the main stage, which was a real shame
beautifulloser
real shame about the streets but no blame can be put at the organisors door and i dont think trying to give every one £1 refund is really pratical. Idlewild were fantatstic though, a band really on form and the 2 or 3 new tracks sound stunning. It was a bit quiet out there though. Lets see if more poeple show up for the Charlatans tonight. 2 other highlights for me were Wild Beasts and Mum who were amazing!

little car
i'd say the saving on the booking fee is nothing compared to the loss of punters, walk up ticket sales, refunds, reduced food and beer sales.......
Bourbon
I thought Idlewild were amazing last night (I personally wasn't bothered about The Streets at all) more of Idlewild made me very happy!! It was my first time at Summer Sundae and I absolutely LOVED it, we only went for a day to see what it was like, but I'll definitely be coming back next year for the whole weekend
swimmingbadger
Surely the nature of festivals mean that they a large bill where a percentage will always drop out, not much can be done to replace a band on the day. Anyone stupid enough or narrow-minded enough to go to a fest to see one band probably deserves to lose money!

zahidf
So did the "stupid and narrow-minded" people that bought tickets on Friday to see The Streets get a refund or not? Seriously, if people who are fans of The Streets bought a ticket on Friday to see them doing a headliner's set, I don't think it's really on to describe those people as "stupid and narrow-minded". It would probably work out cheaper than travelling to see them in Birmingham for instance, and I would understand those people expecting to get a refund. But maybe DMH could be a little more flexible next year on allowing people who order tickets way in advance to cancel their order rather than flatly refusing to to refund orders? Kaybee
Friday day ticket holders who asked for a refund got one, without demur. I understand there were about half a dozen, underlining the prevaling view that most people, even day ticket holders, don't just go for one band. Now be nice. I understand there were about half a dozen, underlining the prevaling view that most people, even day ticket holders, don't just go for one band. Hmmm, or it could just be that people didn't realise this was an option. I took two 13 year olds with me who had only come to see the Streets and spent most of the weekend mooching. If I'd had my wits about me I would have asked for a refund of their tickets. I would be nice if this years ticket holders could be offered a discount next year as an act of goodwill. Moving the third from top to headline isn't really an adequate alternative and Idlewild were rubbish when they headlined five year ago - they have just become even more irrelevant and boring. I know it was extenuating circumstances but let's not pretend that we haven't been slightly shortchanged. That said, I did have a good festival but Friday night was a wash out for us and to be fair The Streets were the main pull for us this year, so to imply it doesn't matter to people I think is unreasonable! Completewasters
i'm surprised no one has commented that idlewild moving up meant that beardyman played the main stage...
lua
It's really unfair to slag off people who came to see the Streets, especially as a lot of them were youngsters. It must have been a huge disappointment for them and I felt very sorry for them. I was looking forward to the Streets for a sing-a long laugh and a good festi atmosphere and the cancellation did make the Friday rather flat. Also the pull out was rather late in the day (i'm sure they must have known earlier than it was announced). If the festival organisers get cash back for insurance I think this should be passed on to punters. This is my sixth summer sundae and in general i thought this was the worst one for good new music and music variety. SS has always been excellent in the past for spotting bands on their way up, not so good this time. It's always had the older bands but is it in danger of falling into being just being a middle-aged nostalgia fest and somewhere for the kids to play??? [p.s.i'm middle-aged but still want new music!]

swimmingbadger
Exactly Ed!I don't want to overtly criticise people who came to see one band but I do find it slightly sad that people can't enter into the spirit of the fest a bit more. Like Ed I loved Kid British and saw as many bands as I could over the 3 days whether The Streets, Mogwai or Grand Funk Railroad headlined made no odds to me, although all 3 would be great
llcoolphil
Has there ever been a festival where nobody pulled out? Not one of the many Ive been to. You should have been at Bearded Theory - the whole mainstage blew away in a tornado on the saturday evening! If you get a refund for a band pulling out, where would it end? If it rains? If the beer tent has a poor choice of ciders due to a Bulmers sponsorship deal? If Kaybee's bench has been replaced by tables and chairs? If two bands you really want to see clash? If you go to a festival, there has to be an expectation that not everyone announced will play - so dont make definite plans. I missed loads I thought Id see through general bimbling and chatting (pretty much par for the course at a festival for me) - and reckon I had a better time for it

saintupnorth
Also gutted about the Streets scratching. Although on the plus side I now have my own laminate for next year. http://www.flickr.com/photos/gigshotsdotcom/3825620401/ Gonna wear it round my neck like Flavor Flav ... lua
were we at the same festival? there were loads of great young bands, many people have put Maybeshewill amongst their highlights of the weekend. Also there was the likes of the Kabeedies and a stunning set from first aid kit. The variation in music was just as vast as ever if you think otherwise I'm not sure where you were.
