Get the F*CK OUT of My Tent – V festival (also on facebook)

Last year we had all our cash and camera stolen from our jeans right by our heads while we slept in our tent. In the morning we realised all our mates had also had MIDNIGHT VISITORS but had woken up, seen them and been told “Sorry mate, wrong tent”.

The police told us we were "one of many" who'd been 'done'!! You could be NEXT!!

WE NEED YOU to help us stop these CHAVS BREAKING INTO OUR TENTS and ruining our weekend.

We’d like to keep our cash for booze and food - not lining the pockets of these bottom-feeding slugs.

Apparently the police are siting 'STING TENTS' or 'covert capture' tents where random tents are set up around the festival site with hidden cctv to capture 'opportunists'.

Send your ideas now and stay safe!!!!!!!!

This hasn't ever happened to me, but it's a worrying thought that these people would actually go into peoples tents whilst they're sleeping! If anyone came into my tent and I woke up I'm pretty sure they'd be leaving in an ambulance!

I don't really bring valuables to festivals with me, but things like keys, phone, money etc are usually in my sleeping bag.

These people are scum and need to be stopped.. I'm sure they would most likely do their 'business' in the day though as most people would be in the arena!

Ok the best way to stop people from getting in your tent while you are asleep is follows.

When on the inside you will have a set of zips, find some way to lock the zips tougher. Use string or some thing a little more strong. A pad lock will work as well. If you lock the two keys tougher when some one tries to open the tent both keys will move and the tent door will not open.

There is a done side to this, which is. If you need to get out of the tent fast you might not be able to.

I would just like to add that this is my 4th V at hylands and have never had any issues with picky counts. But then i don't do a lot of sleeping.

Have fun and what ever you do don't worry just enjoy the weekend.

Hmm...sounds pretty dangerous to me - what if say the tent caught fire?

I also remember something from my youth where we locked the tents to stop other people hazing us (shaving foam in sleeping bag etc). Woke up in the middle of the night with food poisoning, couldn't get out of the tent in time because couldn't find the key and ended up covering the tent in vomit....nice. :(

My ex had our £300 in his wallet, in his jeans, under the airbed and we got robbed a few years ago :( nearly in tears thinking bout it.... dunno why we took so much cash - just in case etc - we had a bit to drink the night before but in no way were out of it - but obviously had enough to not wake up.... god it makes me so mad to think that someone had to reach over me and get it..... makes me feel sick.

Anyway that was 07 I think..... my ex was a right pussy - not sure what he would have done

also worried - boyfriend now would go MENTAL if he caught anyone in our tent and he wouldnt sleep through it either....

Guess Im sleeping with my cash - not taking much this year (managed on bout £50 last year) and keys and phone and not taking anything else Id like to keep!!

It is the only part of the weekend that shits me up, leaves a really nasty feeling in my stomach :(

I have booked one of the lockers - so will put my mobile phone, money, car keys etc in that overnight, then carry them around with me during the days...will only have clothes and toiletries in my tent.

It's a bit worrying because I'm a girl camping alone. Do they have security on duty ? Is the VIP camping area more secure ?

I know there are always horror stories wherever you go. I could be tempting fate but like the guys above this is my 4th year and we've never had any problems. It's usually a really friendly fun festival.

Be smart, just take what you need... sleep with your money and befriend your neighbours.

You'll have great time. Don't speand your whole weekend worrying about security or you won't enjoy it. :(

In my experience as a burglar :( I would say...

  • Don't padlock your tent. This tells me you have something to hide. I'll still get in your tent if I want and slicing the material is quieter than the zip anyway.

  • Avoid bringing anything of value unless you really have to. Surely you can survive without your MP3 for a weekend. Or if you have your car leave stuff locked in that.

  • Leave your wallet and phone etc. at the bottom of your sleeping bag. Even a slinky cat like me will stuggle to delve into the depths of your sleeping bag without waking you.

  • If you have loads of money for beer then buy all your tokens on the Friday. You then don't have to worry about cash. The tokens can be stashed away safe as they are very small. I don't even take cards or anything. I take the money I need and that's it (for me, not from others!!)

  • If you're worried pitch your tent near the pathways, lights and turrets with security fellows. Even if security are crap then it should still be enough to deter thieves. At yellow they have guys on quad bikes showing off....I mean patrolling through the night so being next to the path might help. I would be more likely to steal from the tent in the quiet dark corner as I am a coward.

  • Befriend your neighbours. 95% of people are friendly and will chat, even more so if you're on your own. If they know who you are and know your face they will be quick to spot anyone looking suspicious. Noone will want to see anyone robbed or thieves getting away with it.

and my last point is be careful. My friend once thought he was being robbed in the night but merely threw a punch at his girlfriend as she returned from the toilet at 3am. Luckily being rather drunk and it being quite dark he simply grazed her hair. She was fine but believe me his pain was much longer and severe. So ask for ID before punching potential assailents.

As a quick edit I have also had no issues in the many years I've been going either. Doesn't guarantee I won't but gladly the vast majority don't have any problems. :(

Hi

I thought i would add to this thread to all those people that are worried about their tents being robbed!

This year will be my 13th V and i have NEVER been robbed in my tent whilst i have been in it or out of it.

Last year though, i got back from watching the Kaisers on Sunday to find my tent trashed, this seemed to be from someone falling over it and trashing it not because someone was trying to rob me. It did mean though, that the whole campsite heard me cry becuase i am such a girl and i didn't fancy the idea of sleeping in a tent that was trashed and very VERY wet from the rain (the tent had a huge hole in it) BUT i had no choice and it was kind of fun watching the stars as i tried to sleep.

IF someone tried to thieve from me whilst sleeping i would scream sooooo loud that i think the campers in Staffs would here me. The thief wouldn't get very far trust me ~ and i am a girl that will be sleeping alone!

Don't worry, in all the years that i have been going to V i have (personally) come across no one that has been robbed!

Enjoy Veeeee everyone!

I am sooooooooooooo excited ;):)

Scum bags.

There was no chance of us being robbed last year. I had cups of p!ss outside my tent, so yeah they may have nicked a couple of quid but they would also be covered in p!ss from stumbling about.

If there is a few of you, point all your tents inwards. We did this and again I'm sure it's a good way of putting off would-be thieves.

I've been going since 2001, and have never had any trouble with theiving scum. This year I hope will be no different. Enjoy yourself camping virgin, and if you wanna set up tent next to me and the wife, you are more than welcome to.
