Well done Pezzypops for a very patient and detailed answer - all of which I agree with absolutely.

Glastonbury is different to most other festivals. It does have a lot more to do and see. It really isn't all about the music. It's almost two festivals back to back - the days before the music starts and then the music.

Really make use of the non-music days to explore the site and discover the many hidden delights. You may actually decide they are better than the music.

Don't be fussed about the line up. See the festival as a whole package, not simply a music-going experience.

Be prepared for lots of walking - the site is huge - so take comfortable walking shoes or preferably sensible boots. Again plenty of advice on boots on other threads. Much better than wellies.

Remember that it's going to be a long way from where you park or get dropped off by bus to where you camp so you may want a trolley - again lots of threads on that.

Go with an open mind. Be prepared to be surprised. Try music you've not encountered before. Don't just stick to music you know and don't just stick to the Pyramid stage. Same with food. It's a chance to try all sorts of amazing food.

If you are going with friends arrange meeting places and times so that you can go your separate ways but get together every so often.

If the Magic Hat sauna is there next year I would recommend a morning in there, it's very peaceful. You can make your own cups of tea and sit on rugs and when I was in there someone told me that Sarah Brown was at the site.

Also see a circus show at night in the big top, I thought the circus and theatre fields were fantastic. Take a plastic water bottle to fill up at the taps that are all around everywhere.

Brilliant answers there. Id reiterate the huge bit. No matter whether you've been to festivals before, I dont think anything prepares you for just how big it is. And with this in mind, have a wander right to the top of the hill (no looking back til you get to the top) and marvel at the sight from the top. I found just as the sun was going down and the lights coming on the best time - took my breath away and brought a tear to my eye and had one of the best hours of the fest just chilling out sat up there looking at it
