Josie's Cat
Festivals are a big commitment too - not like an evenng out for a gig. If you are young with no responsibilities it's easier but then you usually have less money too, so can't attend lots of festivals unless you are lucky and have kind parents. For more world weary folk, 2 or 3 days is an effort, you have to get time off work, if you have kids you have organise childcare, or worry about amusing children for a long weekend in a tent. There's more than just the ticket price too, you have to get camping gear and food and drink and so on. Then there's always the weather to think about. There has to be a really good reason for most people to uproot and go. The festivals that have the USP's like Glade for example, or Download - they'll survive becasue they are targeted, but there do seem to be a lot of clone festivals with nothing really special to offer. I'm always sad when I see events cancelled, and really feel for the organisers, but times are hard right now, and people have a lot of choice.
