Lucy... you're dead right.

FS... that is wicked. what is it? Being a child of the 70's, I had parents who dragged me away in their Sprite every weekend. I swore blind I'd never go in a caravan ever again!! That however has changed my mind. We can't afford an Airstream, but liking that a lot.

Looks really nice Stu. Maybe I'll eventually graduate from a trailer tent but I need to get a return on my initial investment first.

I first thought about a Camper when I was stewarding at the Cambridge Rock Festival (then known as the Rockinbeerfest) a few years ago. I was doing the meet and greet on the gate and watched people with caravans and campers drive in, park next to an electric hook up. Within five minutes they were having a cup of tea. Those with tents drove to the other end of the field and spent two hours in the hissing rain stuffing poles before finally getting out a little gaz burner to make a cuppa.

It was a clear 'no contest.' So I decided then to consider a camper. I borrowed a friend's VW for the Trowbridge Fest this year but on trying it realised that it's no more than an expensive tiny tent on wheels. However the people next to us had a trailer tent, which had so much more space and that was what led to our purchase. £1,050 and in good nick seemed a reasonable toe in the water.

Although it still takes time to put up we can get the basic trailer tent up in ten minutes to give us shelter from the elements and attach the awnings and extensions at our leisure. At least that's the

theory.

It's also light to tow behind a small car and compact for storage in mother in law's garage.

My mum and dad have a trailer tent, there is so much more room than a caravan. Unfortunately, as the proud "dad" of two Dogue de Bordeaux, canvas is not an option. I only moved away from a tent when I got the beasts, two 50 kilo dogs and a tent do not mix.

We looked at getting a V dub, but thing is... to go on holiday, thats your transport. They're a pain to park, cost a fortune in fuel, and everytime you go out, you've to pack the sodding thing up. Hence I luuuurve my tent! Shit... I'm getting old even considering a caravan!

We looked at campers and couldn't justify having to tax, test and insure a vehicle that would spend most of the year parked up. On top of that there are all the other expenses of keeping it roadworthy. Then as you say packing everything up to go anywhere takes the freedom away and makes it hard work. We have an awning on the caravan which my parents never did and it gives you a lot more space. Perhaps had we had one it would have made the whole caravanning experience a little better as you are not fighting for space!

HAHA. this is exactly why I don't post on here anymore. or at least til close to next years festival.

Someone makes a valid point and others who dont share that point, dont just argue against it but come back really nasty. Before this years festival there was a real good vibe on here but since it just stinks.

Anyway. As per music in the campervan field. There normally just isn't any. It is classed as a quiet field and its far enough away for it to be a real pain to get to and from it without just coming back and sleeping.

It baffles me why anyone would want to play taped music for hours on end at night in the middle of the world's biggest music festival. Surely if you want music then enjoy the live music that goes on 24h hours a day. this is not telling anyone how to act or forcing opinions, just seems like common sense.

And why not camp and be in the middle of lots like minded people and enjoy the party atmosphere and be close to everything rather than force yourself on a part of the festival that IS quieter at night.

It takes all kinds of people to make this wonderful festival

I've Just realised it is 10 pm on a Monday and I am reading a thread about the merits of campervans, trailer tents and carvans.

That is 15 minutes of my life I won't get back. On the plus side, it is 15 minutes closer to the tickets going on sale

Strewth, that's a bit of a beast ! In fact I reckon you could have a stage and run a full program of live bands in there so defo no need for anyone to think about bringing along a boombox or similar if they're in the CV field next year :D Any rumours for the GH Stage line-up :D

I'm getting a bit worried about the size as the Glasto site says camper pitches are 7 metres long and six metres wide. Anything over and you have to buy a second CV ticket. With the awning up our trailer tent is 7.9 metres.

Do people go round with tapes or are we likely to be OK?

Just in defence of VW campers - I have a 1980s version T25- slightly larger than the old T2 - but with a drive-away awning its - in my view - a great option. I did Glasto about 7 years in a tent ( Williams Field when it was relatively quiet ) but the rain of a few years ago finally did it for me. It has a solar powered fridge stacked with booze and a wonderful 12v shower. The camper fields are quiet - but nothing to stop you ( as I do ) also pitching a tent on site if you cant face the Hill of Death and prefer to stay up partying.

oh grow up!

yeah... but you've still got to have a degree of tidyness... that bottle of tommy K flying around all over the place... thats my problem... and sadly due to a f**ked knee, I can't cycle.

Arena?!!!!

I think people have been a tad pissed off as you harped on about the 50 w boom box, which by all assumption will be loud and disruptive! An ipod and a set of speakers is one thing.... that is a totally different kettle of poisson.
