Noisy cups!

Hi

I remarked some time ago about how noisy the 'disposable' beer cups were on the floor of the Big Top tent last year.

A lot of the EOTR artists deserve and benefit from being 'listened' to and I found the plastic type cups being squashed on the floor in the Big Top to be a major distraction last year - to say nothing of being disrespectful to the artist.

Can you confirm or not whether a 'quieter' alternative has been sourced for this year? eg paper / card.

Ta very much

At Latitude they had cups recycled from something ? household wiring I think it was. You paid a £2 deposit, and then whenever you needed a new drink they took the old cup off you and gave you a new one. Then at the end of the weekend you returned your cups and got the deposit back - and I think they then recycle them into something else.

Result - no cup related litter at all

The only downside is having to carry them around...... easier if kept filled, we found

The other thing which was fab about Latitude and would be great at EOTR was the composting toilets - comfortable, clean, eco-friendly and complete with loo roll which was regularly replenished

They can't do it at all festivals - a chap who works for the workers beer company and posts on the glastonbury board says they can't do it at Glastonbury - its just too big, too many cups required, all of which have be be stored somewhere and washed - they have to give you a clean cup every time as someone mentioned the H&S implications of reusing cups.

Having said that - i see no reason why it cant be done at EOTR - I have two very nice Latitude cups which are great for bringing to festivals to drink your beer out of, and solving the no glass problem. All they need to do now is have some decent ales in cans/plastic bottles!

I see, for whatever reasons, that the organisers did listen and do something about the cups. How clever to come up with a scheme that employed child labour!!! :);)

If I'm listening to the band, I'm listening to the band and have no interest whatsoever in 'your' conversation.

FFS i had to ask someone to be quiet at Explosions in the Sky!!!!! Every time Explosions got louder the twats 3 feet behind me just shouted their conversation louder - it wasn't you was it sadwitch?

And in the Big Top for Herman Dune, standing about a quarter of the way back from the stage the crowd as a whole were about as loud as Herman.

It just plain rude!

Couldn't be arsed to pick up the baton on this again before the fest.

Alright charmer. No that wasn't me, I wasn't there but thaks for thinking of me. There were a couple of bands where I couldn't hear very well because of people having a chat because I was sat at the back and could do f**k all about this what with not being able to walk and carry my stuff unaided. Had this not been the case I'd have taken the dramatic action of walking away and watching from somewhere else. I was outraged at the people enjoying themselves relatively quietly however, how dare they not comply with my wishes? Some of them had even brought young families with them and some of those children made noise or even cried during the 3 days.

I've never said it's ok to be inconsiderate or yell/shout conversations through a quiet set so everyone can hear you but I don't have a problem with people chatting to their friends or family at the back of a stage or even at the front if they're not being pricks about it. There was a lot less unfriendly shhing this year which made me happy.

The ones I chastised were both blokes, and both taller than me (ie 6 ft +) - though if it had have been women it wouldn't have made any difference to their treatment - I'm not a sexist me.

There was no finger wagging on my part either.

Oh, and I didn't have to 'walk' anywhere as the prats were stood immediately behind me.

And on a more general point - why the f*** should I have to move away from such prats. What do you want - no go circles dotted throughout the crowd?

This was my first EOTR, so I've got no idea how it compares to previous years, but it did feel as though the Friday crowd was different to Saturday and Sunday - pretty much every band I went to see on Friday suffered from people standing at the front with their backs to the stage talking at the top of their voices ignoring what was going on around them. This clearly unsettled some of the acts, particularly in the Tipi tent. It's the kind of behaviour I see a lot of from scenesters at gigs in London, wasn't what I expected at Eotr. Saturday and Sunday, the crowd seemed a lot more into the music...
