HurrahBrother
Yep, get your festival solo flight wings. There will be problems, mainly cutting your packing down to being able to carry it all in one go comfortably. As for camping and where to, don't panic,! Closer to the time camps will start to establish on these very boards, each one at a different location and a different flavour and mix of campers. Just join up with the group that suits your tastes as they all welcome the solo camper. Some camps will ask every one to bring one item if you can (often 1 firewood log, or marshmellows for toasting) for the communal fire. TheBigJT
Let's hope so. If you do manage to get tickets then you've got a hell of a lot of planning to do! I thought it was bad enough being at the other end of the country, never mind another continent
tazzyb
Don't worry you will have the time of your life and it doesn't matter how old you are. My uncle ended coming to V with me this year as the person I was going with dropped me in the shit, I cannot drive and it was right at the last minute. Now he has a ticket for his first Glastonbury and he is 50. I know he is going to love every minute of it.

Nixy
Well, I turn 50 next year right before the festival. That's part of my reason for going. You can sit down and get old, or just keep doing the stuff you want to do regardless of how "old" you are. I still want to collect some more good stories before they cart me off to the old folks home... This trip is my present to myself.

geztival_09
Well, I did get a ticket...and the wife decided not to go. I just bought a backpack this week at a local sporting good shop. Going to pack it up and walk around the block a few times over the next few months to break it (and myself in). Picked up a rain suit as well, rarely need something like that here in So Cal, but I figured pants and jacket would be better than just a poncho. (I've seen the photos and heard the legands of the rain.) I figure I'll buy a tent in the UK and either do the pick up on site, or grab one in London prior to heading out...same for a pair of Wellingtons and any other camp gear I think will be needed...(I'll work on that list later I'm sure.) Everything else is a huge "?", So, I am avidly reading the threads here to learn all that I can. I just saw a couple photos of the sprawl of tents at one camp site and had a brief "what the hell did I bite off here moment"....but, I'm sure it'll all get sorted over the next eight months and end up being a lot of fun. I always wanted to do this...I'm just a bit older than when I started out wanting to... JT
TheBigJT
Haha it does seem a bit overwhelming planning it all and thinking of all the stuff to organise/buy. I've been looking at pictures of previous festivals and was shocked at the number of tents! I have no chance of finding my tent in the dark after a few too many ciders! Oh and by the way, I wouldn't advise buying a tent in London because everything is ridiculously overpriced there, but I guess it would save you putting it through customs and all that. A ticket to Glasto is probably one of the best presents to give yourself, regardless of age. It will be a mindblowing 5 days I'm sure of it, however if you've never been to the UK, prepare yourself for near constant rain! It is true that we have a grand total of 5 nanoseconds of sunshine in Summer

treacle
Another vote for efest camp from me. My first efest camp experience was a few years ago. No one to go with so logged onto these boards for info about the fest (Belladrum) as I was going to my first festival alone. Signed up to camp and swapped numbers with a couple of people. At work everyone told me i was mad to consider driving hundreds of miles to meet strangers in a field! Got there and couldnt find the camp, there was no phone reception so couldn't contact them either! I decided to pitch up anyway and soon made friends around me. I found efest camp while on my wanders talking nonsense to randoms and they insisted on moving my tent so I could join them. Paul,Bunter and ampersand came and unpegged my tent and carried all my gear! This was the start of an amazing weekend. Since then I've camped with many many efestival people who have become part of my extended family

grumpyhack
Camping with E-Fests may help break the ice but I find you can make friends with your neighbours wherever you are at Glasto.
vintagelaureate
unless my mates scrap tickets come the re-sale, i am going alone, but im looking forward to it, provided people speak to me!!!!

grumpyhack
I usually go with a group but have done solo years too. If you go solo you usually become part of a group with your new-found camping neighbours, whoever they are. My main advice to any newbie isn't about neighbours - that's common sense - it's get yourself a decent pair of walking boots and break them/your feet in first. Wellie boots don't work - you'll see plenty of threads on boots v wellies. The Glasto site is huge and you'll do a lot of walking. Second bit of advice from a fellow 'oldie' is take a fold up chair. If it's wet and muddy (though it won't be - think positive) it's really good to occasionally sit down with a dry bum and rest and just enjoy watching the world go by. P.S. To chair haters. I'm not suggesting that you plonk it at the front of the Pyramid and sit but it's good to be able to sit outside your tent or around the fringes of the fields.
