Kuki
I have seen Bad Religion 2 years ago, so I have to go for Cypress Hill
tink82
Yep, have to agree with going to see cypress hill. Bad religion are playing shepherds bush empire in london in august so will go to that instead. Have already seen bad religion a couple of times, but they were one of the bands i was really looking forward to seeing this time around
beards
well excited about this now! dunno if this is a stupid question or not but does anyone know whether lidl in koblenz sells tents decent enough to withstand the weekend? or if there is anywhere en route from frankfurt airport we could pick one up? we're flying over and I'm trying to think of ways to cut down on the ammount of luggage we fly with, tents are normally fairly heavy... any help would be greatly appreciated

jiggerjay
Will I be able to bring a hexi-cooker / solid fuel blocks on a plane if it's kept in the luggage area? Flying over with easyjet.
Kuki
Is making a barbecue forbidden on camping area? I remember, that we couldn't make a barbecue at Rock Im Park, only on special places. How is it at RaR?
Squig
Normal BBQs are allowed, open fires are a bit trickier, though.
tink82
Re: tents on a plane - i would urge caution if you are intending on taking a tent on as hand-luggage, because they might try and tell you that you can't take it on due to the tent pegs. Re: cooking at RAR - gas canisters on plane definitely not allowed - and i couldn't find anywhere that sold canisters in koblenz. there was also absolutely nowhere on site to buy the canisters i needed. i've never really seen anyone BBQ-ing. Generally i thought small camping stoves were about as much as you could get away with In summary, flying out there sucks. its taken me three years to realise, but at the 4th time of asking ive finally figured out that the best way to go is just to drive all the way there
jiggerjay
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Hexi-cooker-stove-ar...=item53e10533be THis is what I was on about, I guess I can ring up easy jet and ask, but no doubt they will either not know what it is, or say yes not knowing what it is. Squig
Weird that you didn't see any BBQs, I'd argue that Germans like it even more then the Dutch or British I've met. Anyways, they are defintely allowed. You can get the canisters for the small stoves at every bigger gas station. Plan B is just to take a few beers more and trade them for usage of a BBQ/stove with your german neighbours. That should absolutely do the trick. happystew
Does anyone know if there is a Bus from Frankfurt to the site? We are craching in a hostel a few days beofre the fest in Frankfurt, apposed to Koblenz as Frankfurt seems the bigger town! Any advice at all regarding both (as in buses and night life) would be much appreciated? Edited May 4, 2010 by happystew
Squig
For city that size Frankfurt is horrible for nightlife, with a few minor exceptions. The cvity is full of bankers, and that doesn't help. The quarter south of the Main, Sachsenhausen, has a few nice and lively bars however, so check that out. They also have quite exclusive house clubs (google cocoon), but thats also one of the most expensive clubs in the whole ciountry and basically the only one worth talking about in Frankfurt. I enjoyed cities like Darmstadt, heidelberg or Mainz much better. Be sure to check out the local variant of Cider, called Apfelwein, or Äbbelwoi. There are almost no internal German bus services, check www.db.de for a train connection, however. Edited May 4, 2010 by Squig

We are flying into frankfurt-hahn (aka not in frankfurt at all) if this makes any difference

happystew
What day exactly are you landing, and when do you think you'll make it to the festival side? I think in general Cologne is your best choice down there. It may not be the prettiest city, but it is in the top league when it comes to parties. Heidelberg could be another choice, lots of tourists there though, but also a vibrant student life. Same can be said to a lesser degree to Darmstadt (so you could go to Frankfurt for sightseeing for one or two days, but try to spend at least one night in Darmstadt, which is sort of a suburb). Frankonia (Bamberg and the surrounding villages) are also not that far. Totally off the track, but surprisingly versatille, would be the city of Bochum. Squig
I may be biased because one of my Ex's is from Frankfurt, let's just say my only visit there didn't go all that well (hence ex). But whomever I talk to, most people find it really dull, so good choice so far. As said before, if you value pretty, go to Heidelberg or some other smaller cities, WW2 went pretty bad for us building-wise in most cities, and somehow the word reconstruction just creeped into German in the last 15 years. Cologne is awesome for parties though. Parking is free, just make sure to lock the car all the time and try to not loose your keys. (but even if that happens chances are they get returned to the lost and found, happened to Paul from this side last year). There's gonna be a traffic jam at the side, the size of it depending on when you arrive there, I'd advise Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, less traffic, and you'll be able to park/camp closer to the side. You'll get a sticker for your windshield so that you can exit and enter the parking lot even though it is full (for groceries and the likes). They do check for drunk drivers and drugs though, so beware of that.
alexmole
We get into Hahn on the 31st of May, so we have time to kill, see the country etc and party. Cologne sounds good though, I think we are going to rent a car, do you know anything about the park arrangments at the Site?? East Kilbride! i think we will definitely give frankfurt a miss then haha
