Backpack suggestions

I searched but couldnt find a thread on this. Sorry.

So I dont now much about backpacks.

Coming from America to roughly spend 2 weeks total at the fest and traveling around, what should I look for in a pack?

Internal/External frame? Etc.

Thanks!

And very sorry if this thread already exists. I did search for it.

HI HandBanana

remember that backpacks fit everyone differently, so it's good to try them on if you can. i have a really good quality karimor that i was given as a gift over 10 years ago and is still in perfect condition (give or take a bit of mud). the straps are all really well padded which means that it's really comfy to carry but it does take up a bit more space in the car.

for this reason i bought a cheap bag from argos for bestival last year, i was sick of everyone taking the micky out of how big my bag looked, when actually it's only 55 litres! but boy, did i regret it - i strained my neck and shoulders carrying the thing in to the festival and was in pain for the first couple of days. really not what you want on holiday.

key for me is a really good waist strap - if this fits well and is comfortable you can carry almost all of the weight on your hips rather than your shoulders.

not sure if this is the same for boys though? maybe someone can comment.

check out the quality of the zips and stitching - is it going to hold up to being filled to bursting if need be? and if you're going to be putting it on a plane can it withstand the baggage handlers??

as far as i'm aware, most backpacks don't have real frames anymore, but a lot of them do have adjustable back systems so that you can move the weight up and down depending on your stature - this is a really great feature to look out for.

not sure if that's much help but hope it's of some use - i think the most important thing is, if you're going to be carrying it around a lot then invest in a better quality bag, your back will thank you for it
