from the land downunder
I apologize if there is already a thread about this, i have yet to find one. So i was just wondering as I am not only a first time festivaler next year but it is also my first time in the UK, what can i expect from the weather? People keep saying it can get warm, could someone please enlighten me as to what English people think is warm because to me like 30°C is like pleasantly warm, and anything under 20°C is freezing! LoveGlasto
It can be anything really, from a mudbath to having not one drop of rain. Warm would be typical-English-summer warm and on occasion it has been really hot [for England!!]

grumpyhack
How long before Glasto are you planning to arrive? You may need time to acclimatise. But at least you won't have to put up with bloody mozzies biting you the whole time and possums pooing on you from above.
cejx
and as soon as that morning sun hits your tent.... turns it into a sauna! Closer to Glasters there will be the zillion posts regarding walking boots verses wellies. Plan for rain as the G mud is legendary, so make sure you bring one or t'other. MilkyJoe
You can expect it to be sunny with a high possibility of rain, snow and hail moving in from the east and later giving way to frosty areas and more sunsheeeeeine. It will also be very windy and cold with settled weather and humid temperatures. Edited October 9, 2009 by MilkyJoe

r0cky
It's the variability and humidity that can be a pain (notwithstanding the pain of the rain). After rain the humidity will be high, and when the sun comes out the combination can feel pretty darn hot, especially if you've donned lots of clothes for the colder temps during the rain. I seem to remember this year feeling quite hot and humid on a few of the days; we often collapsed on the grassy hill above The Park area with a cold cider or beer. Mel & Claire
When the storms hit on the Thursday night this year, we just went to the cinema tent and watched Mama Mia! At some points the storm and rain were so loud you couldn't hear the film! Edited October 24, 2009 by Mel & Claire
rexclark
I doubt I've ever been through anything like Glastonbury mudfests (although Leeds last year was horrible). All you have to do is be prepared both mentally and physically. Don't ever let weather ruin the festival for you.

maninkilt
The British love the weather. Having traveled a bit I think that, In all seriousness, the one thing that you can say about British weather is that it is unpredictable, we are a group of Islands on the edge of the atlantic and artic oceans, off the coast of the worlds major land mass with currents coming to us from the carribean area! We have influences. Will it be over 30deg ? probably not unless it is. Will it be below 20 deg? quite possibly, almost certainly at night, but could be warmer most of the time. Will it rain? Bit difficult this, something wet will probably be around you at some time. Five days in the summer without anything is rare (statisticaly it rains more in the summer like most temparate climates). In Britain ther are lots of different names for rain (Im from Dublin, we have lots too but most not for a family forum), drizzle, spitting, cats and dogs, "bloody hell where did that come from" etc, add too that that you will be in a in a valley on a farm in somerset and there could well be mist, fog or dew that will soak things every bit as well as a shower. The whether here is lovely, moderate and FUN, seriously, enjoy it, it's part of Glastonbury. Any way, whatever the weather the beer and good times will be pouring down!
