Trago
Hi all. First time at a festival. How do I keep my beer ice cold. Can it be done.
LoveGlasto
If its a cold Glasto then presto! If not... then maybe one of those ice circlular things people put around wine? Basically you need to be imaginative with it and it'll be ok Edited October 10, 2009 by LoveGlasto
Niblet
In my 15 years of Glastoing I have not yet found anything that will keep beer cold enough to be nice for long enough, I don't even take beer any more, I take bottles of frozen spirits / mixers and then just drink them as they are, they've normaly melted by the first evening! If I want a cold drink I buy it, I've found that I have cans of beer left at the end of the festi as I can't face drinking them.
OneLittleFish
On the same concept of vodka jellies, I might try making jager jellies, might be difficult but if it worked it'd be worth it.

StoneCircle
Complete festival virgin here too... I'm thinking about getting a Coleman Ultimate Xtreme Coolbox, according to the marketing blurb it can keep ice frozen for up to 6 days at temperatures of 30c+ ! I'll pick up some ice from the 24hr Tesco on the way down on Tuesday night, and hope for the best!

HurrahBrother
There is the possibility of an evaporator fridge, They need to be hung under shade, but in the wind. However, such an obvious target, and impractical for a festival!
Glasto_1
Great to hear such optimism on the weather front for 2010 already - ice cold beer as its going to be so damn hot! I hope you're right !

cornishlot
From my experience - unless you are in a van or have lots of personal staff to help you carry all your gear - don't bother taking any cooking equipment, food or drink onto site. It's not really worth the hassle and there's so much food and drink on offer from the stalls to choose from. But if you're really keen to do this, I'm sure you'll find some good, cheap equipment in Trago's
Stuzo
2 ways of keeping cans cool: 1) Keep them on their side on the grass under the ground sheet of your tent, they should stay fairly cool there 2) Fill a bucket with water, put cans in the bucket and put a tea towel over the top so that it sits on the surface of the water, keep it in the shade and the water evaporating from the tea towel will cool the water below it As for stoves, the type with the clip in aerosol cans are good, such as these: http://www.google.co.uk/products?q=PORTABL...a=N&start=
firstglasto
I find warm cider is easier to drink than warm beer neither are ideal but after the first few you won't really care anyway.
Lucanesque
Thanks everyone, some good advice. However the blankety blank cheque book and pen must go to Happy Chappy.
irons
Gave this tip before. Put them underneath your tent. The black lining keeps them cool even in hot weather. No need for an ice box.

jeffie
Hi Trago, have you not seen my other post? There's a Sainsbury's not far away that does home delivery. All you need to do is order in advance online for each day. State your ticket number and the field you are camping in and reqy=uest a midday delivery time. The beer comes chilled in the van, takes all day to warm up. It's a fabulous service. What wonderfu. times we live in! J

G1T
You should request the monorail delivery service. It's a smoother ride so the beer doesn't get shaken up en route.
scappaflow
I don't think I will take more than 10 cans next year. As well as maybe 1 bottle (max) of spirits. I reckon the drinks are priced fairly enough to sip when you are walking about. Everything in the tent gets too hot during the day to be refreshing when the sun is shining, sure it will be nice and cold at night, but really a cold drink is not as important then... usually just a drink will do. The Dawg
I have conditioned my body to drinking warm beer. In fact I advise that you try Cains Bitter in cans. It tastes ridiculously good and you will be the envy of the festival.
