stripeybea
<de-lurks> Hi all, Have friends who have offered us a bed for the duration of the festival near Shepton Mallet, we've always camped but the thought of a comfy bed and a shower each day has its attractions now that we are somewhat (very) old and crumbly! Is this a feasible option? Has anyone tried it? Would we be queuing for hours then parking near Bristol? Cheers Bea x
Kirky_99
That sounds like a gay idea. What's the point, u may as well stay at home and watch it on tv ! Or go to V instead
oldie
Its OK as long as you don't want to have a drink all day, and you like having a really long walk at the beginning and end of each day, and you can always remember where you left your car, and you're happy to carry around with you everything that you might need for the whole day, .... watching it on telly might be easier
stripeybea
that.... I did it for a few years, staying in a B&B.. it's do-able, but what oldie said, above, covers most of the problems... plus, on the Sunday, when they turn the one-way system round to get ready for everyone leaving, as opposed to arriving, a couple of years, it was next to impossible to get on to the site. We actually gave up one year after hours of trying, went to Glastonbury (town), had a pizza, and took one last go, and made it... but it's a bit of a pain. Getting a taxi each day would solve some of the problems... and whatever way you choose, it'll be better than watching it on tele
Loutag
Actually it's very easy to get on and off site - I have done it for the past few years. There is a park and ride approx 1 mile away from the bus gate. Park in there for £20 for the weekend - and then get a lift on the bus backwards and forwards to the main site. The roads around are empty so there is no problem. Yes there is a walk from all the action up to the bus gate - but it's not that far! grumpyhack
From one 'oldie' to another. Invest in a decent tent, comfortable double air bed and good sleeping bag and blankets. Sleep well and warm and continue to enjoy the fest in full. Oh yes and a mug of warm cocoa before you go to bed. That said, I've invested in a second hand trailer tent for next year which, hopefully, will provide the creature comforts. Will mean a slightly longer walk in each morning but should be compensated for by avoiding having to lug all our equipment in from the car park on day one and back to the car park at the end. Cannock Albion
Why not just pitch your tent and camp but go back to your friends Thursday night for a comfy sleep, shower Friday morning and head back to the festival for the rest of the weekend feeling refreshed. Loutag
As you look at the top of the fine guide map: http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/data...neguide_09m.jpg Turn left as you come out of the bus gate and approx 1 - 2 miles away there is a park and ride service. I can't remember what its called - it begins with 'Ash' !! They charge approx £20 for the weekend and then you pay £1 for each journey each way. They drop off and collect you from the festival bus station area. They will give you a mobile number so you can phone them whenever and say 'come and get me!!'. Their bus service runs from early morning til approx 1 - 2 am. They have loos and a 24 hour hot drink and bacon buttie cafe too! We missed the last bus on the Sunday night and had to walk - it wasn't too far - approx 15 minutes. We usually park there approx 11 am and go into the festival site and then leave between 12 - 2 am. Last year we got there on the friday approx 10 or 11 am - there were no traffic jams at that point. We travel back to Taunton each night with no problem. On the Sunday night approx 2 am the traffic was 'slow' but no traffic jams. Hope that helps.
