I think this tent will be great and at 10.8kg not too heavy, will you and Mr (Don't know his name! and when will we get to meet him?) be driving down? We could probably take some of your heavy stuff if you wanted, not usre what we are driving down in but Rob was talking about hiring a 4x4!!

We bought a Vango Icarus 500 last year, one of the most popular tents for sale, in fact was sold out almost everywhere by the summer. Has a wonderful size porch you can stand up in, comfortably all sit in as well whilst watching the world go by. Its £130 here.

For reviews on just about any tent try here. This site is full of real user reviews.

P.s do the pop up tents not 'wander off' with help from nasty fairies?

  • 2 weeks later...

i'm getting this tent:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Waterproof-Person-...7893&sr=8-2

it's gonna be me and my boyfriend squeezed into one room, and my friend in the other. I'm not too bothered about the small bedrooms, but i'm liking the idea of the lobby bit to sit in, and the door that can be opened into a canopy. oooooh!

I do love a tent thread!

We have a Vango (not sure on model) it's a 4 man with one large room and a large porch area. It's the best tent I have had, far better than the ones I used to get from Argos!

If you haven't purchased this I would dissuade you from buying from Cyber checkout, we got a similar tent from there in 2007 as we put it up the wind caught and the bit the pole goes through split and the pole broke. (Poor owrkmanship a tent should be able to cope with a little wind) We managed to get a replacement pole from Millets (all be it too long) but when we tried to get our money back from Cyber they wouldn't even discuss it...

This tent porn thread is amazing!

my mates and I will be flying in from Asia for Glasto. after much consideration we've decided to pick up a tent there instead of lug around one from back home - only now our main concern is that we wont be getting any practice setting up one of these babies-Amazing tents seem to call for superheroic setting-up skills, no?

oooh, further to above...

having just read the guy ropes thread over in chat, it mentions that 'tunnel' tents need their guy ropes to stay up. I've never owned a tunnel tent before, just dome or ridge, but was hoping that the pegs would hold it up, and the guy ropes would just be a 'nice to have'.

if someone walks past my beautiful coleman (above) in the night and pulls its ropes out of the ground, is it going to collapse on my sleeping face?

(or, more likely, will i return at dawn to find it in a heap?!)

yours, a worried BS

oooooh, boredeawn - has it arrived? have you had it up yet?

i'm about to order one but have been umming and aahing over what to get for months now so am nervous about taking the plunge

it looks so beautiful in the picture, guess i'm just afraid it won't live up to my expectations. also, it says headroom of 155, which is almost standing for me, but somehow they never feel as tall as they say they are, if you know what i mean. would be interested to hear what you think?

thanks
