oooooh, boredeawn - has it arrived? have you had it up yet?

i'm about to order one but have been umming and aahing over what to get for months now so am nervous about taking the plunge

it looks so beautiful in the picture, guess i'm just afraid it won't live up to my expectations. also, it says headroom of 155, which is almost standing for me, but somehow they never feel as tall as they say they are, if you know what i mean. would be interested to hear what you think?

thanks

As it is the 40th, i've decided to go old school

http://www.lutonarmysurplus.co.uk/images/c.../camping71L.jpg

Did fine at an event down plymouth over the bank holiday weekend (heavy-ish night rain minor dripping inside from a weak point, should be easily sorted with a gaffa tape patch which should solve the "can't find it in the dark' problem as well), being canvas, no tent heat.

Replaces inner single pole witha tripod made from 3 clothes line poles from Wilkos and a split ring.

Right. Finally got round to the trail run. First impressions are good. When I was putting it up I was a bit worried that the structure wouldnt be that steady because it looked really reliant on the guy ropes, but once everything is pinned in it's actually pretty sturdy. The guy ropes are needed, but you can pin them in really close to the tent and they do the job, and they are also illumonous which helps! Pretty easy to put up as well- the poles are colour coded for ease. It's not got as much headroom as I thought it would have but still a good size. All in all pretty happy with it!

Sorry to rebump this guys n' gals but was about to purchase said tent linked above (A Eurohike Ness which would set me back £28 with the blacks discount) but have found this one for £35, a Vango Alpha 250 - which do you think would be the better purchase?

First time tent buying for just myself so go easy!

Tent porn - love it!

I got a Vango Alpha 300 for me and hubby, we also own a Vango 450 tunnel tent (can't remember model) which we have had for a few years and have done 3 Glastos in previously and I love. There are only two of us this year and he is going ahead and wants something easy to put up himself. The sigma looks great, and was tempting but I couldn't justify the extra expense as this is tent number 4 for us. He wanted to take the small 2 man dome we have, but I have persuaded him out of that as I think it would be too cramped for us and all our stuff.

Last year we had both kids with us so took our big Outwell 5 man tunnel tent, was great to have the extra room but hard to squeeze onto the family field at 4pm on the Wednesday (I think we found the last space big enough) so those of you taking big tents make sure you get there early.

For the person who asked about Eurohike - my first tent was a little 2 man Eurohike dome with no porch, think they still sell something similar. Lasted years, and stayed in it for a month at when strawberry picking one summer but it had to be retired when I hooked up with hubby as it was just too small for 2.

I dont know if anyone other than cejx has this tent

http://www.somersetcamping.co.uk/products/...e-sale-sale/33/

I put it up for the first time this weekend. I had problems getting the poles even, they seemed over bent inwards on the middle section (in front of the bedroom bit)

Me and my 14 year old also had a disagreement about whether bottom of the inner tent was sopposed to attach to the middle poles where they touch the ground. The bedroom seemed to protrude too far into the porch.

After 40 minutes of jiggling, re pegging etc I gave up and just slept in it.

Anyone has any suggestions for getting this tent up right?

We had torrential storms all night and not a single drip got in! Yay!

  • 4 weeks later...

This is the 3rd year for the East London Stage... er, I mean this thing:

We use this as our primary communal space/pub, it's where we store all the equipment (trolleys, chairs, cooking equipment, cool boxes etc), food, booze etc and acts as a sun shade/umbrella during the worst of the weather. It's also where myself and SWMBO live (the compartment towards the back/left) and would act as a temporary space should anyone's tent get trashed/nicked etc. In the past it's acted as a make shift shelter for groups of people dodging the rain on their way back to the own tents or as a cafe for neighbours pitching tent at night in the rain when we get the Hot Chocolate and JD on the go. it also has the added benefit of being able to wash standing up, which if you've got a dodgy back like myself is very handy.

It's a bit of a pain to put up, you need at least one other person to help erect the poles (or lithuanians!) :-) but not as bad as you might think, it takes longer to peg it all out than put it up. One down side is that it does weigh something like 30Kg but as we only bring it out at Glastonbury and the fact the entire group gets some use out of it then it's a fair price to pay I think.

Next year I'll probably give it a stage name and rig up some lights, first act on stage Thurs, 9pm :-)

Ummed and aahed about getting Outwell Fusion 300 (Sage) http://www.outwell.dk/TentMeasure.aspx?b=Outwell&bid=2&lid=1&l=en-GB&catID=546&TentId=1100&pid=1, finally took the plunge and it was delivered Monday before Glasto, had time to have a very quick practice in my flat! So glad I bought it - great tent, huge for a three man with a large porch, height may be bit limited if you're tall but luckily I'm a duck bum. Easy to put up (bar the plastic tent pegs) and take down (envious looks from mates when I popped it up and down)cooler than darker tents, though I still needed a space blanket in the immense heat this year. As it's a pop up decided to use the guy ropes for a bit more stability which looked a bit mental (many comments about laser beam security systems from passers by). Would highly recommend to others especially if the price comes down a bit.
