There's a guy always in the Strathy union on a Friday who has Gene Wilder's face...its hilarious!

It's a throw up between Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein for me, but I think the genius of those films might be more Mel Brooks' direction than it was Wilder. As a performance though, his Willy Wonker is an early memory of mine (much better than the insane Johnny Depp version).

The man's a f**king genius. His performances in The Producers and Young Frankenstien are unreal, he's so, so good in them.

But you can't beat a bit of Blazing Saddles.

I refused to watch the Johnny Depp version of Willy Wonka, so can't comment.

Good thread - I love Gene Wilder.

Young Frankestein wins it for me - absolutely superb, in my top 10 films of all time. Dunno why but I prefer it to Blazing Saddles.

Also, the on-screen chemistry between him and Marty Feldman has me in hysterics.

The guy is a complete genius.

As for the new version of Willy Wonka - yuck. Depp was just too much like Michael Jackson for my liking. Not a patch on Wilder. Not close.

I always liked his films with Richard Pryor. See no Evil, Hear no Evil has some of the funniest moments ever committed to film. Specifically the fight scene, and the bit where the Pryor character - who is blind - helps a blind man across the road. Fantastic visual gag. Ironically.

Stir Crazy was great too, and Silver Streak.

Another You, less so, but it pulled at the old heart strings because I think Pryor was terminal by then.

RIP Richard Pryor.
