luckysalt
I agree with it too, but Rage might not be headlining, I imagine Download had their headliners in place a long time ago, so if them playing Download has come about because of this free gig then they might be down the bill, maybe last but one and the rest of the line up get pushed down? Im not expecting them anyway. But if they do it will be an awesome surprise

zahidf
but why on earth would a festival book rage against the machine when they are doing a free gig as well? most their fanbase would go to the free gig!

armthehomeless
Yeah just remember they headlined T in the Park in Scotland then Oxegen the day after in Ireland in May, and then Reading followed the next day by Leeds in August '08. They have plenty of fans in the UK/Ireland dedicated enough to justify them playing a festival as well as a free gig. (and judging by those performances, I can recommend if they play two sets in two days again, go to the first one ) And just remember how more much it would cost them to just play a free gig compared to how much it would cost if they were in the country already. This rumour (rage, not sure about reliability of the aerosmith one) is so strong now that I'll be gutted if its not true.
Cruicky
Rage would be fantastic. Seeing them at T in the Park in 2008 was the most incredible live performance of that year, which includes MUSE at Royal Albert Hall and Dublin for me. ghostie
Bands can replace singers and be just as good if not better, some examples are... Black Sabbath - Ozzy to Dio Deep Purple - Gillan to Coverdale AC/DC - Bon Scott to Brian Johnson Iron Maiden - Paul Dianno to Bruce Dickinson Alice in Chains - Layne Staley to new guy who's name I forget. Sometimes it doesn't work such as Skid Row Seb Bach to Johnny Sollinger Queen (still ok with Paul Rodgers but not as good) Iron Maiden with Blaze Bailey Motley Crue - Vince Neil to John Corabi
Poleski
I would be annoyed if rage did that and classed it as there free gig. Hopefully if they were to play download they'd play a free gig too

jordanuk90
hmm, yet more rage rumours have made it to the web, this could be awesome! I did hear rumours by word of mouth from friends 'who know people' over christmas that dc, rage + van halen were playing and I didn't believe them as Copping is booking their free gig, but they're really growing now...can't wait for the next announcement to see whether its true! r0w
Metalhammer seems to be thinking its RATM now. http://www.metalhammer.co.uk/news/festival...e-for-download/
luckysalt
That artical says they're guessing Rage for Download cus Download twittered about Rage, but Download twitter has since posted up, did Metal Hammer not know we are booking the free Rage gig as well? [which has been well documented in the past] Im no more convinced either way.
Sparticus
trying not to get excited to its confirmed, since i can only remember parts of ratm at leeds and would love to see them again (nearly put myself into a coma the amount that was drunk/ smoked during qotsa, what with them putting on the worst performance of the festival, and they were the band i was most arsed about!) r0w
ANDY COPPING ON TWITTER: "There should be news regarding the free RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE gig late next week..." So I would defently say that rules them out of headlining Download now as they would have announced the Download gig first in order to sell tickets. Announcing the free gig first just wouldnt make sense at all from a business prespective. So I think thats RATM defently off the list. luckysalt
I don't, I think they would definatly announce the free gig first, otherwise they'd be bashed in the media for offering a free gig and then announcing one you have to pay for. The interesting thing will be the DATE of the free gig, if it's close to Download then theres a strong chance they'll play, if it's its not then rule them out. t8yman
look out for the free gig being announced for the friday in fancy london, and rage playing the sunday at download. makes perfect sense. if 80,000 metalheads are already at castle donington - the scramble for free tickets will be a lot easier, and all the metalheads at DL will think "f**k it, I'm seeing them on sunday anyway." luckysalt
I thought that this Rage gig would only be for a few thousand but if they've drafted in the Download organisers to help sort it then surely its gunna be an outside gig, otherwise they'd just book a venue and turn up and play. I think its gunna be at least a 20,000 outdoor thing myself

r0w
If its an indoor thing people are gona be seriously pissed off as they promised a free gig to everyone. Its gona be a massive outdoor thing just like 'The Prodigy at The Bowl this Summer'....Wembley Stadium, Twickenham, MK Bowl, Knebworth, Hyde Park...take your pick out of those and they will easily fill any of those. No way is this going to be an indoor thing
