Anyone recommend a decent portable mp3 speaker?

Yeah I know - it's not like there isn't a lack of music at Glasto - but always enjoyed chilling at the campfire listening to some tunes in past years and so am after a cheap mp3 player and portable speaker for it to bring along this year.

Both have to be battery powered (wouldn't fancy my chances of finding a usb slot to plug them into for a charge tbh), mp3 player at least 1gig+ and speaker cheap but able to do a job.

Any recommendations?

99% of battery powered mp3 speakers are crap, really tinny.

I agree your best bet will be a Roberts.

Got my mum a Roberts CD radio alarm clock for christmas, it has tiny speakers but the sound quality is AMAZING ! Definitely without a doubt worth spending the extra.

Either one of these is quite truly worth the little amount of outlay you wil part with.

Very bassy and loud. Bloody brilliant, I use my original one (the top one) for my laptop and MP3 player.

I just got around to buying a battery recharger (after 9 months of owning the machine). The player doesnt eat batteries tho just farts/clips loudly when batts go and thought it was way more green to go with rechargeable AAAs now.

An awesome little speaker go buy it...NOW!

(The original is purchaseable for about £12-15!) :P

Should just mention it can handle Daft PUnk at full volume with no quality or bass loss! :P Currently listening to the Coachella set at very loud volume...almost BOSE like! Its vibrating the wok suface nicely :P

Maplins I think. I got mine in Oz but Fleabay is known to sell them apparently. Used mine in a home trivia night party this evening and it happily handled a plethora of 80s kids tv theme at full volume :P

Same little Altec Lansing Badboy speaker but for £15 limited period it would seem...seeing as they normally retail at about £25!

Truly an awesome piece of equipment. My rechargeable batteries are holding up well in my MT207. New in on Saturday and no loss of sound quality yet.

i usually take a stereo and itrip but seeing as this little speaker is so highly spoken of and cheap i've just ordered one, at least this way i can plug my battery powered charger/back up battery into the ipod and not have it's internal battery drain.

if you are thinking of using an ipod of some description those things are invaluable and dirt cheap.

they look cheap and nasty but they do work, you just plug it in whilst the ipod is playing and the ipod uses this as the source of power to run off instead of it's internal battery, and so long as the battery's have enough power you can charge the ipod off it too when not in use.

as for batterys poundland do packs of 10 sony ultra for well obviously £1 so a fiver will get you 50 battery's which is obviously more than enough

Mine arrived yesterday, most impessed. Will be battling with hubby for ownership as its better than his portable guitar amp!

Thanks again!

Just ordered one of these based on all your recommendations.

Thanks Lucy for your input :P

It looks the business and I look forward to getting it, hopefully early next week. :P

A useful companion to my iPod methinks.

Interested to see what the max volume is like :P
