Trouble was, last year me and my friend had a pretty early start getting up at 6 to leave a train from Canterbury,to get Castle Cary for 12ish. We waited in a queue for the bus for around 3 and a half hours. I'm desperate to avoid that again this year, so instead it will be getting up for a 6ish train from Westbury get to Castle Cary, then minimal ques to get in and set up before 11.

We'll thats the plan :P

I got to Castle Cary just after 8am last year and the queues were manic already by then. Didn't get on a coach until 11 ish after standing around in the sun for 3 hrs then on site just after midday! Be prepared to queue no matter what time of day (that is unless the powers that be have managed to sort out the nightmare with the coaches sat in traffic until they got a police escort for them)

Apologies for the bump, any idea what time the trains start arriving into Castle Cary? I'm hoping to arrive for about 10am and have checked routes from Bristol/Bath/London and none seem to arrive much before that (couple at 7am and then a gap til 10am), hopefully this means the queues will be shorter at this point but if anyone knows of any obvious routes I've missed please let me know!!

Read the thread...

So imo getting on the one that arrives at 7am would be a good idea. The chances are, there's a gap between 7 and 10 because the trains are already fully booked. The chances of there being a substantial queue at CC by 10am is pretty high.

Last year the delays were a disaster, but lessons were learnt very quickly. I'll never forget that speed on the top-deck of a double-decker on the wrong side of the road

They WILL be more able to cope this year, partly because of the number of people taking cars so they can get in the car parks earlier - a big anti-public transport error IMHO

Yes, I'll be at Castle Cary again on the first possible train from where I live (arriving at 09:51 from Weymouth after an earlier change, thanks for asking :P )

In an atttempt to beat the horrendous queues at castle cary for a bus I am staying in a hotel at westbury station, allowing me to get to castle cary earlier. Does anyone know the times the shuttle buses start running from?
