Tuesday night - Is it really worth sleeping in the car for the night?

easy answer to that question - NO!

The last thing you need before having 5 nights of little sleep is the night before the festival having little sleep. Cars are horrid to sleep in. cold and damp and cramped. x

i think it's just a way of getting (potentially) thousands of vehicles off the narrow country roads before the pedestrian gates open on the Wednesday morning...apparently last year was a traffic nightmare as so many people were arriving at the same time on the Wed morning...

the last 2 years we've driven down overnight on the Tuesday (coming from Merseyside) and arrived several hours early (just in case there were traffic problems) and we've had nowhere to go, except to circle the site or park in the nearest Tesco car park til the car parks opened...

so i don't think they're trying to encourage people to come at 9pm Tuesday, they're just saying that IF you arrive a couple of hours before the gates open, that you can park your car, get your stuff ready & relax before the ped gates open at 8am Wed morn (or get in the Q for the ped gates)...

i think it's a great idea (especially as we're in a camper van this year) so we can get parked & we're ready to go !

good times :P

We're only coming from Cheltenham so are probably gonna look to get down there around 6am after a few hours sleep at home.

Although it's difficult to know who will arrive when, there will almost certainly be more people on site by Wednesday evening than ever before. Therefore I'm expecting the queue for the pedestrian gates to be pretty huge all day. It will be massive when they open, and with people steadily arriving all day won't reduce much. That's what I think anyway. :P

As a first time Glasto goer I was wondering whether you actually allowed to sleep in cars during the festival? It said on the website that you're not allowed as part of the license terms but do security actually enforce this?

I think that there is alot of scaremongering and at the end of the day people will use their common sense. The festival is emphasising 2 main points

1. No entertainment or facitilties (outside of loos and water) in the car parks

2. People have to remain in their cars.

In addition they are pointing out that there is no entertainment in the festival on the Wednesday.

I think many people are going to use their common sense and weigh up the pro's and cons on the situation. I would hazard a guess that alot of people may plan to arrive at first light, and so far I know nobody that is planning a rough night in the car parks.

As to the lentgh of queues at the gate. How long is a piece of string? Last year the campervan fields opened at around 6am due to the traffic flow, and there was a mighty queue at Gate C, but they get worked through relatively quickly.

Sorry I didn't mean to scare monger.

I know if I was sleeping in a car filled with beer and nothing to do, I'd definitely just have a little drinky, then maybe just one more - oh go on then we on our holidays etc etc.

I wouldn't cause any trouble, though I'd definitely have to go to the loo a few times :P

I've seen people drink entire crates on the coach/ train and that's been with loads of new people to talk to and daylight to read by. Though to be fair I've never seen any trouble.
