My point is the Strokes is already a strange choice that could divide opinion. Hense why I cant see FR putting another band on the next day that could divide opinion.

I dont think it, they were terrible. I just think thats what they was billed as.

and The Stokes have gone way down hill since 2002. They were rumoured to headline in 06 when the last album came out but it didnt set the world alight. I mean their new album isnt in anybodys most awaited is it.

I just think the Headliners dont add up. We usually get headlining

A "legend" headliner (Metallica in 03, Rage, GnR, Peal Jam, Radiohead)

Band billed as currently at the top of their game (Blink, Artic Monkeys, RHCP, Muse in 06)

Band on the way up to the top, the chance card by FR (Arcade Fire, Razorlight, Fran Ferdinand, Killers, Kings of Leon)

Now we have Strokes which is the chance card by FR and we have Muse which could be put in either of the other 2 categories. If you class Muse as a legend headliner then I dont see how MCR is a top of their game band and maybe we may get somebody who nobody has said yet. If you class Muse as the band at the top of their game then the legend headliner I can only think of is Green Day.

hmmmm .... I'd say that the rumoured headliners fit those three things very precisely. ;)

The Strokes are the 'legend' - a band trading off their back-catalogue, more precisely their one and only album that was any cop.

Muse are the band at the top of their game.

And MCR are the band on the way up.

Just because your music tastes are being left behind by the changes over time doesn't mean those acts don't fit those categories.

But whats to say they will be awfull again, they could turn it around completly!

Its just what im hoping for, Strokes Muse and RHCP... However i love the tent find the atmosphere in there better so im hoping for a decent NME headliner!

I have a feeling that Sunday at Reading will see Green Day headline with MCR subbing. I read that Green Day have a live album coming out later this month. Wonder if they'll do a mini-tour on the back of it, including/finishing with Reading/Leeds?

My expectations get lower and lower every year, so if by some miracle there are some decent bands to watch over the weekend then it is a pleasant surprise! Something similar to Faith No More/AFI in the tent like a couple of years ago would be good.

Alice in Chains in the tent during The Strokes would be perfect!

But how can Strokes be labled as the Legend headliner (alongside some of the other bands)when they have only ever been known for one good album. Them being at the top of the bill is just a big a gamble as MCR. Hence why I cant see FR gambling with both acts at the top.

I think FR could quite easily make an argument for The Strokes being the legend headliner - apparently one of the most important bands of the last decade in indie music, good history with the festival, massively popular in their day, available just after releasing a new album five years after the last.

The only argument is whether or not their records have been any good and that's subjective; if FR think (or predict that the majority of punters think) that their records have been good and the new one will go down well then I guess that ticks all the boxes for them.

I don't agree with Strokes being a legend but they've headlined before and headline 2 fests last year and the same could be said of 2004 where Darkness, White Stripes & Green Day headlined and none of them headlined before.

Muse have headlined V festival twice, Reading and Leeds, TITP & Oxegen twice, IOW, Glastonbury twice, as well as had countless stadium shows. I think they defiantly should be seen as "Legends" and I'm not even a big fan.
