Settle an Argument re travel

Apologies if this has been covered before, couldn't find anything on search.

Me and a group of 6 are going to Glastonbury for the first time from Newcastle and are debating how to go down.

We have a car parking ticket but I dont fancy a 300 mile drive on the Monday. I was thinking the coach but my friends think if we are going to get stuck in traffic we might as well be in the comfort of our car.

Does anyone know if the Coaches get to skip the queues or have any other pearls of wisdom regarding the best way to get there.

Agreed it's a challenge driving back that distance on the Monday.

The coach journey was a bad one last year but just about everybody got caught up in it (accidents on M5 etc)

Hopefully things shouldn't be as bad this year but you have to expect some problems with the traffic volume and the fact that you're on B-class roads.

What really boiled my p*** was the fact there were bloody traffic works en-route.Surely this could have been planned better.

Have you thought of the Tuesday overnight Nat Ex coach.? Changes at London Victoria but there's a chance of getting a bit of shut eye and it's due into Glasto bus terminal at 10:30 Weds morning.

Good Luck :P

Might be too late now but think about camping/staying over another night locally on the Monday.

We're booked into a b & b about 5 miles away from the festival so only a short drive, nice bed, bath etc.

Drive home on the Tuesday refreshed and clean !

It doesnt have to be within 5 miles of Glasto. Just pick somewhere sensible anywhere between 5 miles of Glasto and 200 miles from Newcastle. Travelodge on a Monday night anywhere on that route is bound to be nice and cheap especially if you book early enough.

Staying somewhere that has a sauna and a spa would be spot on! :P

Well I'm actually travelling to Birmingham to stay with a friend on the Tuesday to break up the journey. Does anyone know how long the drive from there to Glasto is. Hoping to have a kip at his on the Monday afternoon before heading up the road that evening

Can't remember if I have the Tuesday off work. I booked the leave in the excitement of getting tickets and can't remember what I have. :P

There may well have been as I know there was quite an issue with the station buses getting in on Wed.

On topic:

I vote train, as long as you don't want to taker a ton of stuff or have more than one change to get there its a very easy and comfy trip.

For comfort, I'd rank it:

1. Car - someone else driving

2. Train, max 1 change

3. Coach, assuming you live near the collection point

4. Car - driving yourself

5. Train, more than 1 change

6. Coach, assuming collection point is hassle to get to

But then I really don't like driving. I'm happy to take advantage of a driver who doesn't mind.

Warm fuzzy green virtuous feelings give the public transport options bonus points.

I used the train for the first time last year. I definitely prefer it to driving myself.
