Never mind cabaret, fine wine and meat lorry politics; France’s second greatest gift to the world is the metric system*. Without it, there would be no 100m Olympic Champion, kilo of cheese or pint of beer. Furthermore, Micron would not be Micron seeing as we robbed the old name for 0.000001 metre. We’d probably be called The Beatles or something. So things would be very different.

Of course we all know that the best French export is music. They built discothèques, Édith Piaf and Daft Punk. Inspired by Laurent Garnier and earning a five hour residency at the age of seventeen, DJ/Producer Okain is part of a new breed of French artists. With fellow talent Paul Ritch he records as Handycraft and enjoys a heavy gig list which includes Fabric, Rex Club (Paris), Tresor (Berlin) and Barraca (Valencia).
