train prices

I'm going from Hull and it was going to be over £300 for a return ticket. I booked early and managed to get two singles for £21 and £33 respectively.

Don't bother booking to Castle Cary yet either, book to Temple Meads and buy a separate return from there to Castle Cary, that price wont change.

As has been said just break it up into smaller journeys and you can save a fortune.

Hey kid.

Have you considered leaving very late on the Tuesday night?

Leave Newcastle at 22.43

Arrive York 00.14

Leave York 01.38

Arrive Manchester Piccadilly 03.44

Leave Manchester Piccadilly 05.11

Arrive Birmingham New Street 06.58

Leave BNS 07.12

Arrive Taunton 09.15

Leave Taunton 09.20

Arrive Castle Cary utterly shattered but ready to face the day: 09.40

Cost - as an open return on the Monday: £125!

A total mish but you would arrive for doors open more or less on the Wednesday. Arrive early, get pitched, have a kip for a few hours/snooze during the footy. Make sure you carry a really good alarm and wear a big badge on the train saying 'WAKE ME at XXX please' :P

There is another train leaving at 21.43 I think and that only has 3 changes but it does involve a long wait at Manchester Piccadilly.

Worth considering though. Would be super cheap if you have a railcard too :P
