Car Parks at 9pm on tuesday night?

So.... two of us are travelling from Scotland. We're thinking we'll leave work on Monday, drive a few hours and stay in a travelodge or whatnot, then carry on on the Tuesday nice and fresh :P

I hear the gates arent open for the car parks until 9pm - is this right? :P

I don't want to put a tent up in the dark!! :P

Last time I camped in the area around the Orange Chill n'Charge Tent/ the Glade - any ideas what car park gate we should aim for?

Cejx - do you reckon the stewards will try and make you stay in your car until 8.00am? I was thinking that the queues at the gate would be massive by 8.00am.

It's an interesting question - at what time will you be allowed to leave your car and begin queuing at the gate?

Yeah, I understand that the official line is:

Car parks open 9.00pm Tuesday, entry gates open 8.00am Wednesday.

But we are also told that people who arrive by car after 9.00pm Tuesday will have to stay in their cars. Does this mean you are not allowed to leave your car before 8.00am? I very much doubt that. If so, at what time will the stewards allow people to leave their cars and begin queuing at the gate?

I tend to agree with Cejx - I can see massive queues at the gates and some irate people if entry takes a long time.

I also expect huge queues at the gates.

As for confiscating tickets then I don't believe they can do that unless you voluntarily give it up as they have no powers to search you outside the fence. (the t&c's only give them powers to search you on entry or once inside). In fact I believe the gumf that comes with the tickets advises you not to give your ticket to anybody until you get to the entry gates. That's my understanding although I could be totally wrong of course.

That said, the point of the exercise is to prevent mass traffic jams not to provide a place to party a day early. I think if people just arrived as they usually would then it would all be plain sailing, I do however foresee lots of people arriving earlier than they normally would and confusion ruling the night. Especially with the footy being on early.

If anyone can organize chaos though, it would be GF.

How are the stewards going to make you stay inside your car?

When will they allow you to start queuing at the gate?

I think the carparks normally have toilets, so this year should be no different.

Someone had a response from the festival saying they plan to open one carpark east and one west, and then presumably another once that one fills. I would presume it'll be carparks nearer the gates they start with, in terms of common sense.

Hopefully whatever system they decide on works. Think I'll be hoping to get to the carpark an hour before gates open - wonder will there be a less busy gate to head for?

It was me who had the response (actually, I had 2! :P ). One car park east, one west, and once they had filled the next would be opened. The second reponse said exactly the same thing, but with an added bit at the end saying it would be the same system that is used at every Glastonbury - the only difference being the time of the carparks opening SO if they usually fill the carpark nearest the gate first, and then move backwards, thats what'll happen this time I assume

My gut is telling me that they MAY use the car parks further from the gates so as to avoid temptation. I know that gates on the East side are open, and last year they did not close until gone 3 am. Also on the east it will help to keep people away from the campervan fields.

we will see on the day I guess.

Ya know - I don't really care where they make me park - as long as its not in Bristol as my boots aren't THAT comfy!! :P

I'll be at Glasto about to have the time of my life! If I have to walk an extra 30 minutes lugging camping stuff for me and 3 others who can't get down til Thursday morning then thats fine and if I have to do 2 trips, then thats fine (ish) too! - it'll make the cider I crack open once i'm set up all the more tastier! :P

Why do you hate me??

I will be there on the Monday :P

I do like your attitude though. At least you are there, so what if it an extra couple of hundred yards  I am coming on the train (well hopefully not, but the jigging does turn me on), and that is a nightmare.
