I find Neils PR hilarious (and I have been on the receiving end of his unique style on occasion), cuts to the chase and all that. This website (particularly the Glastonbury bit) is clearly a work of love, it would be a damn shame to lose it.

I’ve had this as well. Took me the best part of a day to get rid of it. My virus protection didn’t pick it up, but ’spyware’doctor' did eventually (after I updated it). Even so, it took a few runs and re-boots.

It’s wasn’t a virus, just a nasty bit of malware pretending to be a virus in order to sell an even nastier ‘anti-virus’ program 'av-force'. I’m not blaming efestivals - Sh1t happens.

What might be useful, is a sticky post explaining what this was, and how to deal with it.

For what it’s worth, this who owns the domain name av-force.net:

Well I wasn't sure (still not) if I had the virus as I did have the 3D parsing thing and the java thing pop up but then nothing else seems to have happened so I emailed Neil this morning to see if it was safe to come back and he replied straight away saying he'd fixed it. Fingers crossed it's not on my pc or laptop.

I really hope this site doesn't go down - where will we all go for info? :P

Those other two festival sites are crap!!

I'm still not understanding how so many people got this virus if you all have AV software :/

Mine (AVG free) picked it up straight away, and I didn't hear anything else about it at all. So...I would say Neil's right. If you had decent AV software, and kept it updated then you shouldn't have had a problem...Unless you have a really shitty antivirus programme :P

the shit all round simply isn't worth the hassle from where I'm sat.

So either things are fixed today, or efests is dead. The decision ain't mine.

I'm off now for some nice relaxation. If efests ain't here in the morning then I can get back to a life, an abuse free life, and ten times the wages. I'm beyond caring which way it goes.

Dude...It (probably, I havn't read back through everything) wasn't his fault. It was whoever supplies the ads to efests. Generally, the person running the site has no say over what ads get shown, and if one of those happens to be infected, then they've just gotta tell the people who supply the ads, or find someone else to do it. These things happen. It's happened on loads of forums I've been on. But not for so long, which I assume we can put down to the bank holiday. Which is fair enough...

Just remember that he's doing all this stuff virtually for free, with maybe a little bit of income from the ads. But they don't go that far. You can't expect everything to be perfect.

I give a shit.

Which is why the problem will be fixed today, or not fixed at all.

An "I'm sorry for any inconvenience, efestivals will resolve the problem as soon as possible and do our utmost to make sure it can't happen again" style post wouldn't have gone amiss though. Instead of "it's nothing to do with me, anyway I didn't get a virus because my anti-virus is better than yours". People are going to be scared of using this site now.

efestivals is always doing it's utmost to ensure such things can't happen; they still happen.

Any fear that people have of using ANY websites (because the risk from all is about even) can be addressed and can only be addressed with better AV software if they have poor AV software currently. A good test of what is or isn't good AV software is whether your AV software protected you here.
