Heyar. Recently been searching for a good quality compact camera. I considered buying myself an DSLR but then thought about how silly it would be trying to hold it in a crowd.

I absolutly love getting pictures of people performing and views around the site and then sharing them with friends etc. Unfortunatly this hasnt been possible in the past years as ive resorted to using my phone D:.

This year i want to spend a good bit of money on a good compact camera which has plenty of megapixles and a good bit of Zoom :P. Ive been looking at the Sony Cybershot cameras but i really do need some better advice..

Anychance you guys could enlighten me on what cameras are better ? or worse ? Thanks (Y)

I'm a Panasonic Lumix fan and have DMC-FZ38. One review said something along the lines of "You'll be hard pressed to get better pictures without a DSLR."

So a 'bridge camera' would be your best bet. Just google search 'best bridge cameras' etc.

Panasonic DMC-FZ38, start around £230(get them in most big shops like Tesco etc so go have a feel). It's like a mini DSLR :P

Here is an image of it with an DSLR me thinks.....

That does look really appealing. Just wondering where i'd put it though whilst im squashed in the middle of a crowd :/. Is it too big to put in your pocket ? Or is there another method to keep it covered up once done.

Great, thanks :P. Ive just been looking into this camera loads across Youtube and Review sites and it really does look brilliant! Not too expensive either considering you'd pay not far off double its price for a decent DSLR.

Won't fit in your pocket but I have this case. http://www.jessops.com/online.store/products/47650/show.html

It's pretty small, internally 14.8 x 9.5 x 13.5cm so add a few cms to that for your external but it has this cover that protects against rain/dust etc so is perfect for somewhere like Glastonbury. It attaches to Sliplock stuff so I carry mine on a belt around my waist, totally secure.

Have just bought a Canon Power Shot SX200 IS. It has a 12x zoom lens which should be good for capturing distant images. Slightly bulkier than most compacts, but far less so that the SLR's. I was lead to believe it is about as good as you can get without buying an SLR. Was about £240. There is also a Panasonic equivalent.

panasonic lumix tz10 is by far the best compact camera with 10x optical zoom on the market, i've had this camera and the model prior to it...

won't go without it :P

Last year i took my panasonic FZ50 with me got some great pics but wife moaned at me when i was finished with it for the day that it was to heavy for her to carry, wot with all the cans of beer as well so i've just bought the panasonic TZ10. which is a lot smaller and lighter ( should stop her moaning ) and to be honest a better camera and the best thing about it its got intelligent auto which gets great results.

I bought the Lumix TZ 7 (the ten was a little to expensive and I did not like the GPS gizmo)

I cant say who good I think it is, it does everything I want and it was just £180

I have spare batteries for it from Amazon that are pattern and work with the camera so the whole issue of only using Lumix batteries is not an issue.

Here are some shots taken when trying it out

here is the Zoom
