There's a difference between "the best the competition had over the competition" and who is the best.

And of course, because the skill levels at the top end (best WC teams) are so much higher and consistent than the best teams in the likes of the FA cup - or even the Euros - then, as history has shown, one of those top teams gets to win.

And England are not one of those top teams. And that is why they will not win it.

Obviously English football could only be severely hindered in the future if England were to win the World Cup. Just like if we won the Rugby World Cup, or the Cricket Twenty20, or if Andy Murray won Wimbledon...

thats what i thought. the increase in uptake of the game that follows international succes and the increase of the talent pool available would obviously be damaging to the sport

And Gerrard, Rooney, Crouch, James, Terry, King, Barry, Lampard, Lennon, Johnson and Ugly Naked Guy are all shite, and have all fluked their way into shite teams.

At no point have I said we have shit players. What we do have are players that don't make a team.
