Do-it-Yourself flag

Thought I'd get ripped apart if I posted this on chat! And this does actually seem a more appropriate place to put it.

Making my own flag this year. Does anyone know of the best paint, paint type substance (!) to use for my design? Obviously needs to be waterproof.

PS Please don't point all the flag haters in the general direction of this thread :P

If I'm honest it's unlikely to go up when a band's on. I don't wanna stand there holding a flag, I wanna dance! Main thing when out and about if if someone in the group goes off we're a damn site easier to find with a flag (piss break being the most likely scenario and that's between acts). Last year that was a life saver for me, got a little disorientated most of the time after having a piss, it never quite looks the same heading back to where you "thought" you were!

I say make your flag! Its so much fun... though make sure you leave it enough time to dry.... I failed to do that :P so I didn't have the joy of bringing it to glasto on the first morning to put up before pitching. (It arrived after lots of traffic somewhere around midnight with a friend).

The type of paint I used was one which was light sensitive... so paint your material then put on your cut-outs and then leave for sun to do its magic work.... voila ...it didn't do anything! Still ended up with good colours and a funky flag... and it didn't run in the rain.

And for the flag haters.... it stayed at our campsite the whole time! None of us could be bothered to carry it around all day and it blocks the view!

:P:P:lol:

I bought a plain flag from skyblue and used hobbycraft's cheapest acrylic paint (which is actually better than pricier stuff as it's thinner and therefore lighter) and some waterproofing spray. It goes through to the other side as flag material is very thin, but i don't think you can avoid that.

Enjoy the flag making and keep it away from the stages! :P

I'm looking at a plain white 5x3 flag from skyblue, are they thick enough to paint on both sides do you reckon?

I should add that my flag will be at the campsite all weekend, I am very much a flag blocking my view of the stage hater.

I've got writing on mine, and i don't think it really matters if it's backwards when it's 4m up in the air! As long as the design's bold. What're your plans? (if you don't mind sharing...)
