Fuck when I have to go shopping, how the fuck am I am going break up the tedium! HMV until fairly recently was always worth a look for their 2 for 10 quid offers but these seem to have got less and less!

It's going be a shame to see no music stores, hopefully some decent independents will start cropping up in more convenient locations!

The white rose centre near me had its best day ever just before Christmas so people must be buying somethings still on the high street. To be honest I haven't been in our local HMV for ages (or Game for that mater) anything I want is ordered straight from amazon now.. I've got a decent nectar points for music thing going on.

Turns out the Queen and Prince Charles have been vetoing all shorts of legislation including transferal of the power to go to war from the monarch to Parliament Which by the way leaves us as the only developed nation where the power to go to war rests in one persons hands; the PM's via the royal prerogative...

But of course we need this anachronistic system because no tourists visit republics.

The most disgusting at all is the one thing where the Royal veto has been used - to block a bill that would make Parliament sovereign in declaring war.

I can't believe that the exposure of democracy being an utter sham in this country is such minor news that only one paper is giving it any prominence.

There are good pubs out there if you look hard enough and are willing to travel. In my opinion in recent years too many pubs have tried to diversify to gastropubs losing all the atmosphere.

I think particularly in free houses there is scope to make money in the pub industry. 3 years ago my friends family bought a pub, he was a brewer by trade and supplied a lot of beer, they bought in local real ales and people travelled because there was no competition, last year it won camra pub of the year. Just a traditional pub, no food, no gimmicks but focussing on quality products.

which, to my mind, makes the whole point of going to a decent pub completely pointless.

The pub I drink in the most I'm happy to walk 20+ minutes to ... but I wouldn't bother with it much if I had to drive because then I can't drink.

That pub certainly gets to show that a pub done well can rake in the money (it's always busy, even at 3pm on a weekday afternoon), but there's just not enough of a pub going public nowadays for every pub to do something similar and be as successful.

It was the smoking ban which killed pubs, of that I'm certain. The crap old pub round the corner from where I used to live was always busy before the ban and never busy afterwards - despite the landlord trying just about everything to get people in. The problem is that the people who used to go to pubs just won't go now cos they can't smoke when they drink.

£19,000 starting salary for cops

we're going backwards.

Cap the benefits, because it's (apparently) unfair for people who can't work to get anywhere near what people who are working get. Then cut what people working get... what a fucking joke

In the Tesco horse burger story, this is the key phrase in the entire BBC report

"Meanwhile, Silvercrest Foods and Dalepak both said they had never bought or traded in horse product and have launched an investigation into two continental European third-party suppliers."

let this be a lesson to the big multiple retailers - you squeeze your suppliers as hard as you do - shit like this is bound to happen.

They might be able to put their hands up and say "not me mate" - but their predatory pricing and buying methods are entirely what has led to this.

expect further costs to UK businesses to now DNA test all meat product before putting it into readymeals and formed meat products.

we get the food we deserve.

True. But Id like to be told!

Also, farmers have to go adhere so many regulations with beef now, for it to be lobbed in with a load of horse meat at the processing level is really poor. Whats the point of hammering farmers about "tracing" meat etc and then making of cocktail of any old before it gets to the shelf?

More systemic problem nonsense. A "regulator" somewhere needs to be shot.

And maybe made into a burger.
